A really rather charming production, written with a Macgonagallesque freshness. The poem opens: 'O! Dear Naini Tal, a lovely sanitarium town! | On the hills are bungalows, streets are up & down.' The delights of the town are described as follows: 'There're Churches, schools & with Ramsay hospital | Many a Hotals [sic] & mercantile, shops are in capital | Departmental offices & clubs stand close to the roads | Pleasant evening walk of Gents & girls of many modes | Assembly Rooms with theatre are near the cricket field | At interval Band plays & summer pleasure is reveal'd! | The China summit from far towers the view, | This peak serves Jolly picknick [sic] in the floor of dew! | From here every hills scene & snow line comes to sight | Pilgrims enjoy the views & far scenery gives delight. | Southside is plains view the "Landend" of tablet top | There served visitor's [sic] tiffin on the Bald bushy rock.' Last lines: '"Bhagwat" prays long live our Noble King | And let us from day by day his great Glory sing!' The poem ends with the poet's name, and the following crossed out in red: 'KUMAON LAURIET [sic, for 'LAUREATE'] (Kasera)'. Beneath this, in manuscript, have been written four lines from Mrs Barbauld. The Letter: 1p., landscape 12mo. Addressed 'To Col. B. W. Marlow | C.I.E.'
