2pp., 4to. In poor condition, heavily-aged and with loss to a few words of text caused by chipping to extremities. Smith thanks him 'le Chevalier' for his 'obligeant cadea vos traits et rappelant ainsi l'expression de la bienveillance, la Philanthropie et l'esprit d'observation qui vous caracterisent'. He is sending his thanks with 'le medaillon de mon effigie que vous voulez bien me demande tout le monde me dit qu'il est plus agé que moi<,> mais il deviendra plus ressemblant tout les jour, considering 'la manière que je brule le flambeau de la vie malgré moi, ayant beaucoup a faire et ne pouvant pas travailler a cause du bruit du jour que pendant les heures silencieuse de la nuit. Il est maintenant 7h 40 AM'. In conclusion he writes that he would not wish to retire to bed without sending his regards, despite being prevented 'de monter jusqu'a chez vous dans la journée come je comptois faire'. A medal was struck for Smith in 1805 by T. Webb, but Smith is probably referring to the the bas-relief portrait medallion of him by David D'Angers [Pierre-Jean David] (1788-1856), who would also appear to be responsible for the image of Smith's neighbour 'le Chevalier'.,>',>
