[14] + 122 + [4] pp., folio. In good condition, lightly-aged. Nicol has written on title-page: 'MR. C. A. A. NICOL A.C.P.' Brief businesslike entries for every day of the week, in blue and (occasionally) red ink, the latter perhaps reserved for more sensitive operations (Nicol was closely involved in counter-insurgency operations against the Malayan Communist Party). Occasionally signed and dated as 'seen' by a scrutiniser. Mileage recorded in pencil. A handful of receipts loosely inserted, and also a 4to page of autograph notes on 'The 3rd (Communist) International, generally known as the Comintern'. The diary begins with Nicol returning from his annual leave in Australia on 9 January. The following entries give a good indication of the content. '[18 January] 00.01-08.00.
