He suspects SL is 'the fairy godmother who - partly at least - induced the Book Society to recommend The Seals [...] I want people to feel something of the tragic futility, the truly terrible ever present threat of the irrational in our consciousness, and how it threatens not merely us but our children. In this sense then the book is propoganda [sic] and deliberate propoganda [sic]"
