2pp., folio. Bifolium, with second leaf blank. Very good on lightly-aged paper. Nicely printed on watermarked Monckton wove paper. The text begins: 'This ancient Surname is local, and was originally assumed by the Proprietors of the lands and Barony of Carmichael, in the Upper Ward of Lanarkshire.' Describing the line from Sir John de Carmychell, who 'had a Charter in 1385, from his cousin, Sir James Sandilands of Calder (son-in-law of King Robert II.)' to 'JAMES ROBERT, the present Baronet, who re-assumed the family name of Carmichael in lieu of his patronymic Carmichael-Smyth by Royal License in 1841'.Duplcate available (from Family Papers).
