An attractive and varied collection of twenty-four items from the archive of Cheney & Sons, 'General, Commercial & Artistic Printers, Banbury', and produced by the firm for a number of clients in the wine and spirit trade. (The calling card of partner John Cheney describes him as a 'Printer in Gold, Silver, and Colours', with 'Specialities in the best class of work', and the company's high standards attracted clients from London's West End. Ranging in size from 29 x 22.5 cm down to a 7.5 x 11 cm card. The twenty-four items are fresh and light in design, in a variety of typefaces and paper stocks. Twelve items for Hunt, Edmunds, & Co., 'Brewers, Wine & Spirit Merchants', including 'Special List of 1878 Dinner Clarets. Two years in bottle', dated June 1884; 'List of Small Very Special Parcels, Old Wine, etc.', dated January 1895, and nicely printed on laid paper; list of 'Rare Old Remnants of Wine', dated December 1887, printed as the previous item; 'Special List of Hocks, Champagnes, Clarets', June 1883; 'List of Special Parcels of Old Bottled Sherries, Ports, and Clarets', dated December 1885; announcement, dated November 1883, on 'Port. Vintage 1881'; credit note; letterhead. Five items for R. W. Flick, '(Late Humfrey & Co.) Wine, Spirit, Ale, & Stout Merchant, 44, Parson's Street'. Including an advertisement from Christmas 1890, on light-blue paper, printed in red and black, including both 'WINES and SPIRITS of the Purest and Best Quality' and 'GUINNESS' EXTRA STOUT'. Another handbill, printed in light-blue and gold, announcing on 25 September 1890 that Flick is taking over the Cherwell Maltings. Price list (1p., 4to) for 'R. W.
