[Shipbuilding in Victorian Scotland.] Notebook of engineer with the firm of Henderson, Coulborn & Co., Renfrew, containing 'Particulars' (specifications of 34 of the firm's ships (screw and paddle steamers and tugs), and diagrams and calculations.

95pp., 12mo. In ruled account book stitched into red card wraps. 55 of the pages carry 'Particulars' of named are carefully written out in black ink, with the 'Particulars' of Screw Steamers. The rest of the volume consists of pages of pencil diagrams and calculations. The first ink page is headed: 'Particulars of Screw Steamers | No 51. 53. 53. 56. 57 & 65. | Elvira, Matilda, Coquette Edith &c'. This first entry is a relatively short one, covering only one page and containing twenty-three lines of 'Particulars', beginning: 'Length of Keel & Forerake 216 ft 0 in | Breadth of Beam 24 ft 6 in | Depth moulded 13 ft 0 in | Draft of water when launched 3' 12" 240 ton | [Draft of water] complete finished 4' 6" 383 ton | Displacement on 11 feet 1155 [ton]'. All four of the ships named were built by Henderson, Coulborn & Co. of Renfrew, around 1864.) The second set of particulars (2pp.) are for 'Paddle steamer Undine | No 64 Clyde River steamer'.
