1p., 8vo. With red ruled border. On bifolium, folded into customary packet and docketted on reverse of second leaf. In good condition, lightly-aged. With embossed and ink tax stamps. Begins: 'Know all Men by these Presents that I Albany Crawhall of Allenheads in the County of Northumberland Esqure Lord of the Manor and Lands of Barhaugh in the Parish of Kirkhaugh in the said County of Northumberland have nominated deputed authorized and appointed and by these Presents Do nominate depute authorize and appoint Christopher Hardy of Alston in the County of Cumberland Labourer to be Gamekeeper of and within my said Manor and Lands of Barhaugh'. Hardy is given the authority to 'kill any Hare Pheasant Partridge or any other Game whatsoever for the sole use and immediate benefit of William Donkin of Sandoe'. He is also authorized to 'take and seize all such Guns Bows Greyhounds setting dogs Lurchers or other dogs to kill hares or conies Ferrets Trammels Low bells Hayes or other nets Hare Pipes Snares or other Engines for the taking and hitting of Conies hares Pheasants Partridges or other Game'. Signed by Crawhall with wafer seal, and with signature of witness Robert Walton. With signed autograph statement by Thomas Davidson, clerk of the peace for Northumberland, recording that he has entered the 'Deputation of Appointment' in his office.
