1p., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. He informs him that 'the Duchess will be obliged to postpone her visit to The British Museum till next week', and asks what day would be convenient.

On one side of a 15 x 39 cm piece of Whatman paper. A fragile survival: aged, worn and stained. Drawn to a scale of two inches to 30 feet. Central ground plan ('The Court 73 feet') showing, with size, 'Malting', 'Ale Tonhouse', 'Bear [sic] Tonhouse', 'Brewhouse', 'Milhouse', 'Hop Room' and 'Office', 'Spirit Cellar', 'Tender Trade'. The ground plan is flanked by two elevations. The first is captioned 'The Front of Malting &c to South 71 Feet', and the second, 'The Front of the Malting in the Court Side &c 47 feet'.

ONE: 2pp., 12mo. Bifolium with mourning border. In good condition, on lightly aged paper. He is enclosing a letter from 'Dr Braun in Rome', and suggests that Smyth will be able to correct the translation. 'I am sorry Dr Braun is not more successful, but he has zeal in the Cause, & will not lose an opportunity.' TWO: 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on aged paper, with remains of mount on blank page. A letter of condolence on the death of Smyth's tenth child, Caroline Mary Smyth (1834-1859).

1p., 12mo. On bifolium. In very good condition. Having asked Thorp's son to ask him to 'turn this' in his mind, he writes again on behalf of the Duke, who would like 'the names of such gentry, as might be made Depy. Lieuts. Mr. Adamson complaining of their want at Hexcham - Avonlea - & some other places'. The only name that Smith can recollect is that of 'Mr. Mitford, of Mitford Castle, who is desirous of acting'.

1p., 8vo. With red ruled border. On bifolium, folded into customary packet and docketted on reverse of second leaf. In good condition, lightly-aged. With embossed and ink tax stamps.

10pp., 4to. On five leaves pinned together. In good condition, on aged laid paper with Britannia watermark. Folded into the customary packet, and docketted 'Valuation of Corbrid. Houses & Gardens &c.' Arranged in ten columns: No. of Claim; Proprietors Names; Situation & Tennants Names; What the Building consists [Premises consist] of; Particular Content of Land [Gardens &c]; Total Content of Land; Particular rent of Houses & Land; Yearly rent of Houses & Land; Houses & Land proportioned; Total Claim.

2pp. 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged. Making arrangements for a visit by Lynd's daughter Maire, 'with Thomas', the following week. 'Please let Miss Maire stay as long as possible as it is a long journey - I asked Thomas if they could not stay over the 19th when Vera Moore & Antonia Butler will be playing for me in Alnwick but I am afraid he said Term began before then but anyhow I hope they will stay as long as they possible can & get some music as I believe Vera Moore comes here about the 12th -'.

40pp., 12mo. Stitched and disbound. Internally in fair condition, on aged paper, with outer leaves stained. The margins have been slightly trimmed, affecting the author's presentation at the head of the title page, which reads: 'Mr Walker | With J. Holland's Respe | Octr. 26 <...>'. Full page 'Preface' in small print, dated 'Newcastle, September, 1832', on p.3, and full-page 'Note', in even smaller print, on the following page. A nicely printed poem, with numerous elucidatory footnotes in small print.

1p., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Writing to an unnamed correspondent, he asks to be sent ('Raby Castle | Darlington') 'a copy of the D of Argyll's speech in Septr. last, & of his speech upon the Cretan insurrection in 1867'. He is enclosing '19s in stamps'.

1p., 8vo. On a bifolium. Addressed, with postmark, on the reverse of the second leaf: 'To the Overseers of the Parish of Darlington - | Durham'. In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper, with two spike holes. The document reads: 'Gentn. | A Single Woman of the Name of Ann Allison, belonging to this Parish is gone to inhabit in your Parish - you will therefore have the goodness to pay her 2/6 pr. Week - from the 28th. Inst.

1p., 16mo. Letterhead printed in green on green paper. In fair condition, on aged and dusty paper, with traces of pervious mount along one margin. The note reads: 'The Duke of Northumberland will take a copy of the History of Newcastle, as requested by Mr Robinson in his letter of the 17th., to be sent to Alnwick Castle - | April 20. 85.' The reference is presumably to Richard Welford's 'History of Newcastle and Gateshead', published in London by Walter Scott between 1884 and 1887.

Both items in good condition, dusty on lightly-aged paper. ONE: Headed 'Little Ryle June the 12 1732 | an account of what my plate come two that I take with me from ye house'. Docketed on the reverse: 'Account of Plate and other Things taken from Little Ryle to Acton in 1732. by Elizabeth Collingwood'. 1p., folio. Twenty-one items, beginning with 'for my Coffie pote fourteen pound ten shillings' and ending with 'for six brickfast [sic] plates of nine shillings | in all eight pounds eleven shillings'.?>

4pp., 12mo. 26 lines. Bifolium. He thanks Fitch 'for his present of the engraving of Alleyn Percy, the Master of St. John's College, Cambridge, on its foundation in 1615', which he will 'much prize' as he has 'no portrait of this Individual'. He is enclosing his subscription for the 'twenty Portraits of celebrated persons, which are publishing under the direction of Mr. Hudson Gurney, and Mr Dawson Turner', and directs that these be forwarded to the care of 'Mr. Williams' at Northumberland House, London.

Seven items, all in very good condition on lightly-aged paper. Trevelyan's idiosyncratic and hypochondriacal character comes through strongly in this correspondence, ostensibly concerned with his application to become a magistrate, but largely devoted to the state of his health. ONE and TWO. Manuscript copies of short letters from Trevelyan to Thorp and the Duke of Northumberland. Both dated 22 October 1832, and both 4to, 1 p. Requesting 'a Dedimus, as a commencing Magistrate'. THREE. Manuscript copy of letter from Trevelyan to Thorp. 23 October 1832; Netherwitton, Morpeth. 4to, 1 p.

Folio, 1 p. Bifolium. Text on recto of first leaf; docketed on reverse of second leaf. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged and worn paper. Headed 'Longhoughton | Northumberland'. Signed at foot by the Earl and Countess. Begins 'Licence is hereby Granted to Elizabeth Adams to Lett Lett or Assign over to Robert Adams All That Messuage or Tenement and the Lands thereto belonging with the Appurtenances Lying and being in Longhoughton held of us by Lease for Twenty One yeares from Ladyday One thousand Seven hundred forty and Nine'.

Price list: 12mo, 8 pp. Stapled. Very good, on lightly-aged paper with slight rusting from staple. Photograph of specimen in jar on reverse, captioned 'CARTILAGINOUS. SKELETON OF DOGFISH.' Headings include: 'Specimens mounted to order', 'Osteological Preparation', 'Cartilaginous Preparation', 'Glass preserving jars' and 'Living and Preserved Material'. Letter: 4to, 1 p. Stamped date 16 January 1923. On firm's letterhead, with list of wares from 'Museum Specimens in jars' to 'Taxidermy' in the margin. Circular, containing additions to the list.

121 signed bills and receipts from the accounts of the Trustees of the Northumberland Coast Committee (also described as 'Trustees for Guarding the Coast', 'The Honourable Coast Committee Alnwick', 'The Honnble. Coasting Committe [sic]'). Very little is to be discovered about this organisation, with no contemporary references in The Times.

Folio, 1 p. Docketed on reverse: '15 Oct 1897 | Mass Meeting Berwick | Tickets disposed of'. Text clear and complete. Fair, on lightly-aged paper. In double-column, in at least two hands. Additions in pencil and blue pencil. The Times, 16 October 1897, carried a report of the event, described as the 'greatest political gathering ever held in Northumberland outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne'. Apparently a document produced in the run up to the meeting.

All four items with text clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. The four items pinned together and placed in the stamped envelope of Cameron's letter, addressed to Dickson as 'Clerk of the Peace of the County of Northumberland | Newcastle upon Tyne'. Casting interesting light on the workings of the Ordnance Survey. Letter One: Cameron to Dickson ('for Lieut: Colonel James | Director, absent on duty'), 19 September 1855. 4to, 1 p.

4to, 1 p. Good, aged paper, with traces of previous mount adhering to reverse. Reads 'The Duke of Northumberland presents his Compliments to Mr. Twining, & shall be glad to see him on Wednesday next at three o'clock. | Northd. House | Decr. 2d. 1799.' From the Twining family archive.

4to bifolium: 2 pp. Good. Soliciting Adams's 'Vote and Interest' when he is 'enabled to proceed to a ballot', having 'lately presumed to offer myself to the Proprietors of East-India Stock, as a Candidate for a Seat in their Direction, upon some future vacancy'. (Feeling 'that their suffrages will have been very generally engaged to an earlier Candidate for the next appointment which a casualty may occasion', he does not want to 'interfere with that Election'.) He was resident in Bengal for thirteen years, and the final paragraph describes his other qualifications.

12mo, 11 pp. Stitched and unbound. First and last leaves loose, otherwise in fair condition, on lightly-aged paper with grubby title. The section of 'Eggs of the Farne Islands' consists of fifteen entries on pp.8-9, from '1. Eider or St. Cuthbert's Duck (Somateria mollissima)' to '15.

All items with text clear and entire. Item One: offprint, on one side of a piece of wove paper 25 x 18.5 cm. Good, on lightly-aged paper with some wear to extremities. Headed 'AQUAECULTURE, And the Artificial Propogation [sic] of the Danube Salmon in Bavaria, BY DR. WIMMER. | Re-printed from the Macclesfield Courier June 27, 1857.' The letter, dated 'Landshut, 11th June, 1857', is addressed to 'Thomas Ashworth, Esq.' and covers two columns of small print. Item Two: four-page offprint, on all sides of a grey-paper bifolium, leaf dimensions 20 x 12 cm. Very good. Headed 'ON PISICULTURE.

On one side of a piece of wove paper, 27.5 x 22 cm. Good, on lightly-aged paper, with some light off-setting of the text. An attractive piece of ephemera, with the text presented in a variety of types and point sizes. Reads 'CATHOLIC | EMANCIPATION. | [short thin-thick rule] | THE | HUSBANDMAN & VIPER. | [short thin-thick rule] A HUSBANDMAN found a Viper al- | most frozen to death; he took pity on | the poor Reptile, and placed it in his | bosom, where it soon recovered; and | its first act was to sting [last word in italics] its Deliverer. | The APPLICATION I leave to | Sir C- H-.

4to bifolium: 2 pp. Good, with slight loss to second leaf from breaking of red wax seal, traces of which still adhere. Twenty lines of text. Docketed in pencil and ink on second leaf. Asks them to furnish him with 'all the particulars relative to the Farne Islands [...] who the Lessee? - their estimated quantiy or extent? - Rent? length of lease? - [...] whether Birds, feathers, down, Eggs, Rabbits - Kelp, or Seaware, fish &c? all which I should hope you would be able to obtain from some of your Bamburgh friends? - or from Blackett, at N. Sunderland? - how they are protected?

4to: 1 p. Very good on the first leaf of a bifolium. A third quarto leaf carries the address, in Dampier's hand, with his franking signature 'free | T. Rochester.' Also the oval seal, c.3 cm high, a clear impression in red wax. 24 lines of text. Interesting letter. Dampier begins by thanking Adams for 'your Congratulations to me on my Promotion to the See of Rochester.

Folio: sixteen leaves on laid paper. Unbound and stabbed, with two staples (now rusted) added subsequently. Good, with first leaf lightly discoloured. Title-leaf, and text on next fifteen paginated 1131-1159.

Twelve pages on six folio leaves, apparently disbound from the 1803 reprint of the Journals of the House of Commons, and paginated 351-362. Discoloured, and with chipping to extremities (not affecting text). Summarises the statements of various individuals concerning the matter. The first of the four appendices is 'A Rental of the Estates late Lord Derwentwater's, in the Counties of Northumberland and Cumberland. To be sold before the Commissioners and Trustees for the Forfeited Estates, on Thursday the Eleventh Day of July next, 1723.
