House Governor of George Heriot's Hospital (Boase)(1796 or 7-1857). One page, 4to, edges discoloured, fold marks, text clear and complete. "My dear Sir,/ I have been expecting to see you in Holland once more but have been disappointed. Nothing of a domestic nature, I hope, has prevented you. Thinking I wd. have seen you here I always delayed writing which otherwise I shd. have done to thank you (as I now cordially do) for the three excellent volumes which you were so kind as send to our Library. By & bye I purpose printing a catalogue of the Library, with the names of the Donors. [Steven still at Scottish church i.e. its library] / Mrs Steven has been exceedingly unwell for many months. Indeed she was scarcely out of her bed; but, though, thank God, she is much improved in health, you will not be surprised that I am still anxious when I inform you, that she has the prospect of becoming a Mother in the course of next month./ Along with this you will receive a copy of Aymon's Monumens Authentiques, [underlined] &c. It is an important work & highly esteemed on the Continent as well as in Britain. I daresay you will find no difficulty in getting a purchaser for it among your Ecclesiastical friends & lovers of documents [underlined]. Allow for Aymons[sic] what you think proper, - and with it & the two copies of my own work which you wished [from "which" interpolated superscript] [.] I imagine you will be nearly satisfied in setting it against the Balance wh[ich] was due you in April." Note: A History of the Scottish church, Rotterdam" presumably.
