English writer and critic (1829-1919), brother of the painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti and the poet Christina Rossetti. The letter is docketed as to '(Besant)', presumably the writer Walter Besant (1836-1901). Four pages, 12mo. On a piece of grubby, discoloured paper, torn in half and neatly repaired with archival tape. Traces of glue from previous mounting on verso of second leaf of bifoliate. Docketed as 'About Keepsake MS'. He returns the book with thanks. 'I asked whether the handwritinng can be that of Medwin (asked a person who married into the Medwin connexion) but can't get any positive answer - certainly no confirmation of the surmise. The index rather seems (tho not indisputably) to attribute the M.S. of the Verses to one Reynolds: certainly the M.S. of the verses is the same.' Sends regards to 'Mr. Campbell'. 'I wd have liked to make some positive appointment for the pleasure of seeing him, but ill health of a very alarming kind in my family & other troubles make me a great hermit now. I am however very generally at home (56 Euston Sq.) [...]'. Signed 'W. M. Rossetti'.
