Five Autograph Letters Signed and four Typed Letters Signed (all 'J Paterson Ross') to Noon.

Five of the nine items in 4to, and the rest 12mo. All texts clear and complete. Collection in good condition on lightly-aged paper. Occasional minor traces of brown-paper mounts, and most items with punch-holes to top left-hand corners. A cordial correspondence between two colleagues. Several letters relate to Noon's soon Charles, training under Ross to be a surgeon. On 26 June 1952 (12mo, 3 pp) Ross writes discussing the son's failure in an examination.. And on 4 January 1953 (12mo, 2 pp) he informs Noon of the regret felt by him and his staff on having to part with the son 'in his official capacity at the end of the year'. Ross praises the son's qualities, recalling how he undertook 'the job of everyone from night dresser to duty Registrar on one of the nights of the Christmas entertainment when both of the House Surgeons were wanted for a rehearsal', and saving the life of a drunk 'who had perforated a duodenal ulcer'. 'It was cruel bad luck his coming down in the paper of all things - I still think his writing may have been largely to blame; but one can't do much about writing at his age.'
