Bulletins and other printed ephemera published by The Shelley Society, [1885]-1888.
Ten items, all 12mo, printed wraps, sewn as issued (except one, not sewn as issued), light foxing, mainly good condition (two somewhat battered), two bulletins have the colophon of Richard Clay, Wise's printers of choice, as follows: 1. Bulletin (for want of a better word), 16pp., inc. Prospectus dated 8 Dec. 1885, subscription requested for 1 Jan. 1886, Secretary Sydney E. Preston, listing prospective publications for 1886, and further "Publications Suggested", Lists of Committee and Members, anticipating Alma Murray's "The Cenci"; 2. Handbill, "Change in the Honorary Secretaryship", 5 July 1886, one page, bifolium (thre pages blank), Sydney E. Preston making way for James Stanley Little, discussing need of funds; 3. Bulletin, as 1.. 24pp., inc. "Original Prospectus, with slight revision", similar content to above, additions including xpansion of members list, letter by new secretary Little, about the planned performance of "Hellas" 16 Nov. 1886,; 4. Bulletin, 20pp., not sewn, Notice of AGM 26 Jan. 1887, long discussion of aspects of the Society, inc. "Reasons for joining Shelley Society" and review of Alma Nurrray's "The Cenci", other areas of progress, congratulations to members for achievements, including "indebtedness" Thomas J. Wise ("He has had control of all the Society's printing work ..."), "Rules suggested for the Society, Accounts (audited by Wise), etc; 5. Handbill, one page, bifolium (three blank pages), comprising letter from James Stanley Little, Hon. Sec. anticipating publications inc. one with long note by Swinburne, also anticipating the AGM, and bemoaning the losses in performing ""Hellas", delaying "The Cenci", etc.; 6. Bulletin, 24pp., contents as others, expanded membership again; 7. Programme, 4pp., "Shelley Song Evening, University College, Gower Street, 11 May, 1887 ... Programme | Arranged by Wallace Wells", singers include Luther Munday; 8. Second Annual Report, 1888, [10]pp.; 9. Bulletin,24pp., contents as usual, 420 members, Wise now Secretary; 10. Handbill, "Special Notice", one page, "Mr. Frederick Wedmore has kindly promised to act as Chairman at the Meeting of March 9th [1887], when a Paper will be read by Mr. B.L. Mosely on 'Miss Alma Murray as "Beatrice Cenci"'.
