The letter begins: 'My dear Campbell. | You will find all I know about Axiologus, and Miss Maria Williams, in a prefatory note Vol I of my Edition of W[illiam]. W[ordsworth].s Poems (not Life).' He confirms that the poem is by Wordsworth, and expresses regret at 'letting it be known: for it led Tutin [John Ramsden Tutin (1855-1913)] of Hull to go & print the sonnet for private circulation some years ago.

Two indexes in small print on title-page: 'Titles' and 'Places of printing other than London'. 101 items, ranging from the 1645 Mercurius Academicus to the Fleuron, 1923-1930, the last entry ending 'We take this opportunity of expressing our appreciation of the generous review of our TYPE SPECIMEN CATALOGUE [copies of which are still available at 3/6] which occurs on pp. 211-2 of vol. Galley Proofs of additional Shelleyana intended for and included in A Shelley Library (1924), 9pp., 51 x 21cm, good condition. It was published in the same year as Ashley Library, vol.5. Collins, Two Forgers, p.225, states that A Shelley Library and 1925’s A Swinburne Library ‘were simply reprinted sections from Ashley, pasted up in a different form with a few corrections’, which appears, in the light of these proofs and galleys to be understatement. The present galleys consist of entries for items present in other volumes of the Ashley Library, not vol.

Ten items, all 12mo, printed wraps, sewn as issued (except one, not sewn as issued), light foxing, mainly good condition (two somewhat battered), two bulletins have the colophon of Richard Clay, Wise's printers of choice, as follows: 1. Preston, listing prospective publications for 1886, and further "Publications Suggested", Lists of Committee and Members, anticipating Alma Murray's "The Cenci"; 2.

4to, [iv] + 50 + [i]. Text clear and complete. Good and tight in worn cloth quarter-binding, with labels on spine and front board. On the rectos of twenty-four of the leaves is a diplomatic transcription of a copy of the first edition, with notes by Wheeler on some of the reverses. At the end of the volume are three more pages of 'NOTES [S. Wheeler's]'. Laid down on both sides of the front free endpaper is a cutting of the entry on 'The Dun Cow' from Wise and Wheeler's 'Bibliography of the writings in prose and verse of Walter Savage Landor' (1919).

List (quarto, 4 pp), dated 'December 1, 1894', of 'Books Published by George Allen [...] During the last Twelve Months'. THREE. Pamphlet (octavo, 32 pp), dated 'December 1894', of 'Works by John Ruskin, Augustus J. C. Hare and others, Published by George Allen'. Includes full-page advertisement announcing as 'in preparation', T. J. Wise's edition of Spenser's 'Faerie Queen', with illustrations by Walter Crane.

Octavo: 32 pp. Stapled and unbound. Rather worn, particularly at first and last leaves. A few pencil marks and notes, and slight ink staining at head of first leaf. Twenty illustrations. 168 items; three-part index on final page. Influential catalogue, the collection sold in its entirety to Duke University. One of Birrell & Garnett's managers was Graham Pollard, co-author of the book which unmasked T. J. Wise as a forger.

Poet and man of letters (1884-1958). One page, 4to, fold marks, sl. wear, text readable. " . . . I think the occasion for using that poem by Collins would be the next occasion on which we mention - as we are bound to mention - the Artist's Rifles [last work in ms.]/ It will go in very nicely if you will let me hold it up for a bit. I don't blame Wise about the Swinburne poems; I don't think there is a man in the world who could tell one Swinburne poem from another, once you have ruled out the few best.
