Autograph Letter Signed C. SaintSaens, composer, to Felix Levy, an amateur tenor, patron, and intimate friend of Saint Saens.

Three pages 8vo, browned paper, fragile, slightly chipped, small closed tears on folds. Levy was the patron of St Saens during his exile in London in 1871. In 1872 Saint Saens composed Menuet en Valse op. 56, which he dedicated to Felix's wife, Sarah Levy. The letter reads: Sunday My good friend , A thousand pardons for not having written to you sooner. I have started to work again and this makes me the most unreliable correspondent in the world. We will not come for dinner. I had to make a choice, not wanting on the one hand to leave my mother when I am in Paris and fearing on the other that she will have a lapse in her diet and that it would happen too often. But J will certainly come to see you and when the weather is nice, both of us will come. I went to lunch at Rueil this morning and I regretted not seeing you there. Madame Encort once again charmed me with her voice and her talent. All my best regards to Madame Levy and with my very best wishes to you, C.
