The eleven parts are uniform, headed from 'SERIES A. Series No. 1' to 'SERIES A. Paper No. 11'. Totalling 57 pp., folio, with the eleven parts separately paginated: 18 + 18 + 3 + 3 + 4 + [1] + [1] + [1] + [1] + 6 + [1]. The first part is followed by three lithographed plates (the second a foldout) by Dangerfield of Covent Garden, from designs by 'F. A. Abel' and each dated and with his facsimile signature. The three plates are titled: 'Illustrations of Proposed Test Apparatus', 'Drawings of Test Apparatus with Measurements' and 'Drawings of Test Apparatus with Measurements (continued from Plate II.)' Very good, on aged paper, with the headings of the eleven papers highlighted in red pencil. In worn red morocco binding, with 'REPORTS ON THE SUBJECT OF THE TESTING OF PETROLEUM | BOVERTON REDWOOD' in gilt on front cover. Bookplate of Sir Boverton Redwood on front free endpaper, at the foot of which are printed the words 'Presented by Lady Redwood'. Shelfmark written in pencil on the front pastedown. The second paper is titled 'Report of the Secretary of the Petroleum Association [i.e. Redwood] on Professor Abel's proposed amendment of test. Report of a Series of Experiments undertaken with a view of determining the Relation existing between the Results afforded in the Testing of Petroleum Oil by the Open-vessel Method defined by the Petroleum Act, 1871, and those given by the System devised by Professor Abel, and described in his Report to Her Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the Home Department, dated August 12th, 1876.'
