In detached and heavily-worn original publisher's quarter-binding of grey paper boards and brown cloth spine with paper label. Bookseller's ticket of W. Hodge, East Street, Chichester, on front pastedown, together with ink inscription of 'J. D. Cockburn | H.M.S. Gorgon | 1859 | Port Royal'. Pencil inscription on front free endpaper of 'W. Cockburn | Carp R.N'. Loosely inserted is a manuscript headed 'A list of Tools and sundrie [sic] articles left by John Cockburn to the charge of James Williams, untill [sic] his return'. 1p., 4to. On aged paper with heavy wear along fold lines. Fifteen itemised entries, beginning with '7 [amended in pencil to '3'] Rip and hand Saws', and ending with 'Blacking brushes 3 blankets 3 pilliars [sic] Kettle saucepan gridiron two buckets two basin's [sic] three plates two knifes [sic] spoons candlestick pot mug dish two gallon measures and a funell [sic]'.
