In poor condition: on brittle and aged high-acidity paper, with chipping to wraps and front cover loosening. Inscribed inside the front cover. No. 44 of 72 contributions is 'J. NEEDHAM - L. WANG - D. J. PRICE (INGHILTERRA) - Chinese astronomical clockwork.' Scarce: no copy on COPAC or in the Wellcome collection, and the only copy on OCLC WorldCat at the BNF.

Total number of volumes , 15 (Syllabuses 12; Publications 3), green cloth, worn, spine gt, worn at extremities, contents slightly loose, generally fair, all with library stamps and shelf marks, and the label Board of Education Reserve Stock. Publications have wraps bound in.1. N.F.U.

Part One: [4] + 247pp., 4to (including introduction by 'M. K. [i.e. Mitchell Kennerley]'). Part Two: [3] + 220pp., 4to (paginated 249-468). Perforated bidding sheet at end of Part Two. Internally in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn and stained wraps with loss at spines. Attractively designed, with numerous illustrations and facsimiles in text. The cover of the first volume carries the ownership signature of John A. Holland at the head, and the prices of the sale's 1482 lots are given in Holland's hand.

[4] + 47pp., 8vo. In printed wraps. Internally in fair condition, on aged paper, with slight staining to the corners; in worn and chipped wraps. A handsome production, as one might expect from one of the nine founders of the Grolier Club, with a two-page introduction followed by a full-page reproduction of the Ascensius printer's device, and 47 examples of pages set in various point sizes of Cushing, Ancient Roman, Jenson, Satanick, Louis XV, and Century Roman. No copy on COPAC, six American and one French on WorldCat.

8vo: 36 pp, paginated [17] to 52. Disbound and unbound. Grubby, but with text clear and entire. Outer bifolium in poor condition. Lacking stitching, so with each bifolium loose. Mainly consisting of lists of individuals receiving awards.

256pp., 12mo. With frontispiece engraving and vignette on title. In original brown cloth binding, with blind-stamped decorative pattern on the boards, and title and design on the spine. Ownership inscription of 'Arthur Baxter | Runcorn | 1861' on piece of paper laid down on front pastedown. A tight copy, on stained paper (particularly the last few leaves) and aged paper, in worn binding with gilt almost dulled. An interesting production, reminiscent of previous Minerva Press publications, and looking ahead to the yellow-back.

First edition, 8vo. Laurence A216a. Original red cloth, speckled, lettered in gilt on spine, hinges cracked, in damaged dustwrapper. below). Inscribed on the half-title: "to Yvette Pienne, player and writer, | G. Bernard Shaw | Malvern | 23/8/36." WITH: unpublished photograph, 19 x 14.5, of Bernard Shaw with a bevy of youngish ladies including Yvette Pienne according to a note (NOT in Shaw's hand, prob. Pienne's) on the reverse, "Malvern Festival 1938 || G. Bernard Shaw | [?] Lewis | Yvette Pienne|".

[4]pages, 8vo, grubby and foxed, last page (blank) with vestiges of glue from being laid down in album. A note is printed at the end, "Young Men, who may receive or read this paper, are affectionately invited to the Bible Classes of the Young Men's Christian Association [...] | W. Edwyn Shipton" (venues given). No other copy traced - COPAC lists another series of the same name only (published by Nisbet). Discussion of Jesus Christ, using metaphor of a river.

36pp., 8vo, with photos and a folding "Diagram of the Dover Glasgow Road", green printed illustrated paper wraps, slight damage ot spine, condition mainly good. Initial sof previous owner on front cover. Three copies on COPAC (Nottingham, Kew, Brimighma, NOT BL).

8pp., 12mo. Stapled and unbound. In good condition, on aged high-acidity paper, with slight wear to extremities. Blind stamps and shelfmark of the Hartford Theological Seminary. The text begins: 'The House having under consideration the bill (S. 5876) to establish postal savings depositories for depositing savings at interest with the security of the Government for the repayment thereof, and for other purposes - | Mr SULZER said: [...]'.

15pp., 12mo, green paper wraps, sewn as issued, stained, worn and foxed, small closed tear, small chip off corner affecting front wrap and text, contents mainly good. Scarce: only PODs currently listed on via Libri.

William Sulzer (1863-1941), nicknamed 'Plain Bill Sulzer', is remembered as the only Governor of New York ever to be impeached. He served as a Representative in Congress from 1895 to 1912, in the latter year chairing the House Committee on Foreign Affairs. In 1913, shortly after his inauguration as 39th Governor of New York State, he was impeached by the State Assembly on charges of having diverted campaign funds to his own use, charges which Sulzer asserted were a 'fit-up' by Tammany Hall boss Charles F.

16pp., 8vo (publisher says "foolscap Quarto"), coloured illustrations, missing paper wraps (scans of Oxford copy covers enclosed). Listed on the wraps, back a list of sister works, front full title "Darton's Instructive Stories. Old Times" (titlepage just has "Old Times". Titlepage grubby, marked, wear and tear at edges, contents complete and attractive. Only one copy recorded on COPAC/WorldCat, at Oxford.

SCORE: [4] + 75pp., 4to. In printed wraps with decorative cover and advertisements. A fair copy, on aged paper, in worn and chipped wraps repaired at the spine. Unusually positive and forward-looking for its period, on the subject of women in the workplace. Note on reverse of title: 'The writer of the Libretto wishes to acknowledge his obligations to "Work and how to do it," by Mrs.

Ten pages, sm. folio, green paper covers, with title label as above, stapled (sl. rusty), covers slightly marked. contents foxed but clear. From the regulation height of ponies to handicapping. WITH: Manuscript, 5pp., 8vo, stapled to inside cover of the Rules, printed heading "MEMO || From Capt. G.B. Rimington, M.C. | Box 1884, NAIROBI", commencing "If No. 1 gets ball at roll[?] in No 2 to Back | If No 2 or 3 get ball No 1 goes to back [..., concluding] No. 3|| Must be well mounted. He is half back assisiting his forward in attack & helping his back in defence".

8vo, in worn and damaged black cloth. Three sample spines in green cloth are laid down on the front free endpaper, and three sample brown leather spines gilt on the rear pastedown.

116pp., 4to. Lots 2401 to 4510. In brown printed wraps with design including small illustration of Lowther Castle laid down on front cover. Aged and worn in like wraps. Clearly made out by a substantial bookseller (perhaps Quaritch, since the name does not appear in references). Inside the rear cover the following in pencil: 'Hotel Expenses £18/12/0 | Tips Hotel £2/15/- | Total Spent at Sale £2677/-/-', last figure being an enormous sum for the time. On the front cover a note has been made of three cash sums totalling '582 [pounds]'.

Not paginated. [107]pp., 16mo. Internally good and tight, elegantly printed in red and black. In original heavily-worn green leather binding. Small leaf, printed on both sides, advertising the book, loosely inserted. In the twenty-two lines on the reverse Stevens states that 'The price of all these books in substantial andn ornamental bindings of great variety, with leather, calf, morocco or russia backs and corners, and muslin on paper sides, is Four Hundred Guineas (420l.) If with full leather backs and sides, very handsome, the price is Four Hundred and Fifty Guineas (472l. 10s.)'.

20pp., 4to. Stapled. In original card wraps printed in black and red. 317 lots. Worn and aged and with central vertical crease to volume. Central bifolium loose. Advertisement for the auctioneers on inside front cover, and 'Time Table' on inside rear. A second day's sale, on the following day, is advertised as featuring 'The Furniture, Unique Collection of Japanese Works of Art, Bronzes, Old English and Continental Porcelain etc.' In margin of page with conditions of sale is pencil list of the booksellers, headed by 'Museum Book Store (Spencer's man)' and featuring E.

115pp., 8vo. In red cloth binding. No dustwrapper. Aged, with back hinge sprung and one bumped corner at the back. Excellent inscription by Spender on the front free endpaper, in which he describes the history of the composition of the play: 'To And | with love from | Stephen. | March 16 1938. | This play begun January 1933, at Barcelona, partly written in January 1937 in Madrid & Albacete, and finished January 1938 in London, is almost a record of our friendships through five years.'

Internally very good, on lightly-aged paper, loose in worn light-brown calf binding, marbled endpapers, all edges gilt, back hinge sprung. Stamped in gilt on the front cover: 'ACIS & GALATAEA | A PIECE OF OXFORD EXTRAVAGANCE | BY | T. F. PLOWMAN'. Inscribed on fly-leaf: 'H. W. Chapman, Esq. | with the author's sincerest regards. | 1869.' A scarce item: only three copies on COPAC, at Oxford, Cambridge and the British Library, all three of which attribute this anonymous work to Plowman.

85pp., foolscap 8vo, on the rectos of 85 leaves. On laid paper with Stowford Mills watermark dated 1874. In a notebook with contemporary brown calf half-binding, with marbled boards and endpapers. Pencil notes regarding provenance precede the text: 'Evelyn MSS. Unpublished (?) | Copy by W. J. Evelyn (?) | Ex Joanna Booth | Ex Christies Evelyn Sale. | pencil MS Note verso p.32 in W. J. E.'s ordinary hand | See note | Transcript of unpublished Evelyn mss. c 1880.' Internally in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn binding.

Two volumes, hf-lea, marbled boards and endpapers, wear to extremities of binding, small chip from top of spine, foxing, hinge strain, mainly good condition. Pp.[iv]614 AND [iv] 654. Quarterly issues for March and July 1859 AND October 1859 and January 1860. See Wellesley Index, vol. II for details of contents and sorry history (as well as Gettmann). Main British Libraries have copies (electronic or not). WorldCat on viaLibri is not playing ball at the moment for US holdings.

In fair condition, on aged paper, in worn wraps. Frontispiece, engraved title, and numerous illustrations in text. A collection of nineteen pieces in prose and verse, with such titles as 'A Chat concerning a Couple of Chairs' and 'Mephistophiles at Malvern'. Scarce: the only copies on COPAC at the British Library and Durham.
