The letter begins: 'My dear Sir, | My friend, Mr Melville, of this Office, has drawn up a paper on Bootan, the scene of our present "little War" in India, which I think would be interesting to the readers of "Once a Week" - The subject is likely to attract some attention shortly after the meeting of Parliament. If the paper should be considered suitable, I shall be very happy to lend you some Photographic illustrations of the people of Bhootan, to be engraved in "Once a Week".' Kaye's knowledge of Melville's abilities leaves him in no doubt that the recipient 'will find him a serviceable collaborateur'.
