[W. E. Blomfield, Principal, Rawdon Baptist College (University of Leeds).] Autograph Letter Signed [to the Board of Education, London], enclosing printed pamphlet '114th Report of the Committee of the Northern Baptist Education Society for 1917-18.'
LETTER: 1p., 4to, with 26 lines of text. In fair condition, on aged paper, with rust marks from paperclip in one margin. The letter begins: 'Dear Sir | I send you a report - the latest we have issued. It is cut down to 1/3 of its usual size. The regulations given are prewar conditions & hardly obtain now. We now require a man to pay what he can [last three words underlined] towards his board but no good candidate would be rejected because he could not find a penny. Practically this obtained before the war but we emphasise that now. Further we recognise that many men who have lost three or four years in war service & who are getting well through the twenties will not find it possible to face a full degree course of five or six years. [...]'. He describes the 'three years theological course' offered to such men, before concluding: 'if men can offer more all the better but if they satisfy in this minimum & other credentials are satisfactory we receive them. Send us any names of likely men, or put me into direct touch with the men.' Postscript discussing government grants. PAMPHLET: 24pp., 12mo. Extra bifolium with 4pp on 'Equipment for the Ministry in Baptist Churches' tipped-in onto inside of rear cover. In grey printed wraps. Small illustration of Rawdon College on title-page. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, in worn wraps, with slightly rusted staples. Shelfmarks, stamp and label of the Board of Education Reference Library. Scarce: no copies on COPAC or OCLC WorldCat.
