Two Autograph Letters Signed to [Aaron Jonah] Jacobs.

British school inspector (1856-1936) and member of bodies dealing with child welfare and the after-care of children. Both one page, octavo, and both folded twice. LETTER ONE: creased and discoloured, with closed tear along one fold (not affecting text). He has 'carefully read with much interest' Jacobs' 'World peace and armaments', '& I congratulate your [sic] heartily upon the presentation of your views. | Before attempting to further your case, I should like to have a talk with you.' Suggests meeting at the Constitutional Club. LETTER TWO: good, but grubby and lightly creased, and with small pinholes to one corner. He is returning the 'thesis' (presumably Jacobs' book 'Peace without Pledges', published by Hutchinson in 1937), and congratulates Jacobs 'upon your literary style & presentation - such always appeals to me!' 'Of course your views are well understood by me & I note your constant reference to Police analogy, but I was never sure how voluntary collective action was going to be introduced practically. Would the other Powers really intervene mainly for the love of Peace? For instance would France intevene if Germany & Italy were at loggerheads? Or would Italy be stopped from attacking Abyssinia? Would Italy, nevertheless, go to war & laugh at the Powers? Besides, it might "suit the books" of the other Powers or some of them! | I should be glad if you would write a short criticism of me!'
