Autograph Letter Signed to J. Cotterell.
British architect and politician (1798-1873), Member of Parliament for Bath, 1855-73. Three pages, 12mo. Very good, but with two stubs from previous mounting adhering to inner margin of verso of second leaf of bifoliate. He was glad to receive Cotterell's 'Papers & to read your Proceedings from Mr Fuller, because I entirely agree in their Spirit & Intention & shall be glad to forward them by every means in my Power | You may depend upon it we shall have no more War & I am happy to say that in this House Mr Baillie [the Conservative Henry James Baillie, 1803-85] withdrew his offensive Motion on the subject of American Recruiting which will avoid a difficult & dangerous Discussion. | It is true that one M Moore a very troublesome Irishman has taken up the Cudgell - but he has no Influence & his Motion will be of no Importance. Baillie was a very different man & as a Scotch Member (Invernessshire) had a following of considerable Value believe me'. Signed 'Willm Tite'. Baillie served as an M.P. until 1868, which is consequently the latest date for the letter.
