2pp., 12mo. In good condition, lightly-aged, with minor traces of glue along one edge. He thanks him for 'so kindly procuring permission to send me the Rules of the Order of Victoria & Albert for transmission to the King of Siam'. He asks 'what Foreign Orders are given to women', and would like to know how to 'get at the rules which give these'.

2pp., 12mo. On bifolium with mourning border. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with 6cm vertical closed tear to first leaf, affecting a couple of words. The reverse of the second leaf carries a broken seal in black wax, and is addressed to Clanricarde. The letter begins: 'My dear Ld C: | We are in a great difficulty at the H. of Lords today for want of a third Peer.' He will esteem it a great favour if Clanricarde 'will come at ten and enable me to go on with the Causes - for otherwise there will be the whole expence thrown upon the packs'.

ONE: Northcote's letter to Barnett. 7pp., 12mo. On two bifoliums, in a close hand. In good condition, in aged envelope, with red wax seal and two postmarks (one of Woodstock), addressed to 'Henry Barnett Esqre | Woodstock | Oxon.' At the time of writing Northcote was Gladstone's personal secretary at the Board of Trade. The letter begins: 'Coleridge has left town for Sessions, and will not I fear return for some time. This will account for your letter of the 1st. remaining so long unanswered. I am sure we are much indebted to you for your suggestions, by which I doubt not we shall profit.

Piece of paper, 10 x 4, black border one side, edges sl. ragged, mounts on reverse (formerly in album), text clear as follows: We remain Dr Sir | Yours very truly | Arthur E. Guinness | Jonathan Pim".

Hertford's Letter: 1p., 4to. Bifolium. Addressed on reverse of second leaf, with broken seal in read wax, 'To | Sir Robert B. Harvey Bt'. In good condition, lightly aged, with closed tear caused by breaking open of seal. Reads: 'The dissolution of Parliament will I trust apologize for the liberty I take in requesting the continuance of your friendly offices in the county of Antrim, but I cannot apply for a new favor without expressing my obligations for those already conferred, and of assuring you that I remain most truly, Sir, Your faithful & very humble Servant'.

2pp., 12mo. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Addressed to 'Rev. C. J. Wilding | Hartley Vicarage, | Bewdley.' Setting out his view that 'any property belonging to the Church in Edward the Fourth's timee became public property on the transfer to the nation by Henry the Eighth at the Reformation', with reference to the 'Gift or Settlement of 1675'. He concludes: 'I should reply to your question "Would you disendow a living thus endowed"? - No.'

ii + 10pp., 8vo. Unbound and stitched. In fair condition, on aged paper. Ownership signature of 'R. G. Underdown' (Railway, General Manager) at head of first page. Passed 18 August 1882. The ten pages of the act are preceded by a two page 'Arrangement of Sections', from '1. Married women to be capable of holding property and of contracting as a feme sole.' to '27. Short title.' A document of considerable historical significance. Scarce: no copies located on COPAC.

2pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter, addressed to an unnamed recipient, begins: 'My dear Sir | Before I quitted Office I communicated to the Court of directors the Draft of an Insolvent Bill & some letters on the subject which I had received from the Judges in India, together with a request that they might be laid before you for your opinion & observations.' He should like the opportunity to talk over the subject with him, as he considers himself 'pledged to bring the measure forward [in the House of Commons]' with the approval of the present Board.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition. Casting interesting light on the workings of the British parliament in the Regency period. Headed by Abbot 'Private'. Docketed on reverse of second leaf, presumably by Sidmouth: 'The Speaker, | Novr. ye. 19th: 1806. | Lord Harris's Proposal | Meeting of Parliament | &c -'. He has received Sidmouth's note, and reports that 'Lord Harrowby wrote me a full account of your Meetings on Lord Harris's proposals'.

Pp.[3 title]-27[1 blank], 8vo, disbound, presumably missing hf-title, title and final blank dingy, small hole on p.27 with loss of part of page number and a couple of letters. ESTC R205565. Multiple copies in British and US libraries. No copy currently on the market.

7pp., 8vo. Inscribed at head of title-page: '<?> an earnest request for a careful consideration of the whole question'. In fair condition, lightly aged and worn, no wraps, disbound. Only one copy traced on either COPAC or OCLC WorldCat, at the BL.

4pp., 8vo. Bifolium with drophead title. In fair condition, aged and worn, disbound, with chipping and damage at spine. Three copies on COPAC.

12pp., 8vo. In good condition, lightly-aged, no wraps, disbound. Only one copy on COPAC, at the London School of Economics, and none on OCLC WorldCat.

1p., 4to. In fair condition, on aged paper with small spike hole at centre. Reads: 'Sir/ I have mislaid your account and as I shall not go to Town again this spring I must desire you will make out another bill and sent [sic] it to Williamstrip, & I will send you a draft on my Banker.'

2pp., 4to. Bifolium. Docketed on reverse of second leaf. In fair condition, on lightly aged and worn paper, with one dog-eared corner. He has received Wallich's letter, and thanks him for his 'great kindness in attending so effectively to my request'. Docketed in a small contemporary hand at head of first page.

1p., 12mo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. The letter reads: 'Sir | It gives me sincere Pleasure to learn that The Information against you was quashed. The Offence charged, does not come either within The Letter or The Spirit of my Act. I am only vexed that you have had so much Trouble.' Taylor's connection with the Metropolitan Paving Act of 1817, led to it being referred to as 'Michael Angelo Taylor's Act', but it is unclear which act he is referring to in this letter.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. The letter begins: 'Want of health induced me to retire from Parliament in opposition to the wishes of my kind constituents and hurrying me from Town as soon as my votes had been given for the Liberal candidates at the Kent Surrey Essex and Middlesex Elections - unavoidably deprived me of the interesting though mournful pleasure of attending your final lecture at Finsbury Chapel.

1p., 4to. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Reads: 'Sir Henry Parnell presents his Compliments to Mr Mandel, & begs to acknowledge the receipt of his letter. But he has not leisure at present to examine the contents of it. | Feb: 22: 1828'.

Ownership or authorship inscription at foot of title page: 'Albert E. Bullock | 45 Fairlawn Av: | Chiswick.' With occasional manuscript emendations, apparently in the same hand.

3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. On paper with the 1842 watermark of R. Turner of Chafford Mills.In fair condition, aged, and with a central spike hole. He has received the ten books, and is returning them 'by the night mail', and will return 'the box of books' later, 'as unfortunately a courier only passes here but on certain days in the week'. Changing tone, he continues: 'I beg that my name may not be put down as a subscriber this year to the library; for I feel after the number of years we have been subscribers that we might have had the 5th Vol of Mad.

2pp., 12mo. Bifolium with mourning border. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. He has received a note from his friend 'Provost Grieve', asking him to 'allow my name to be put on the back of the Greenock Police & Water Bill, along with Mr Dunlop'. If this were a formality he would readily agree, 'But I find some of my own Constituents have severe alarm about the water part - and I would prefer that you would get some other Member of the House - Mr Bouvene is interested as representative of Pt Glasgow which is to receive the benefit of the water'.
