4to, 3 pp. 55 lines of text. Bifolium. Clear and complete. Fair, on aged, grubby paper. Begins with salutation to 'My Dear Sir'. He has received the two letters, the first sent 'from Clide by a gentleman to whom Mr McKingie (the gentleman you recommended to me) delivered it'. Cassillis is willing to 'use all my interest with the directors of the forfeited estates in order that he might get what he wanted', but not having heard from McKingie he assumes 'that he has got his Business done to his mind'. He regrets not having had 'the opportunity of shewing with what pleasure I would have undertaken to serve any one recommended to me by General Murray for whom I ever have and always shall have the warmest Friendship and sincerest esteem'. The last two pages concern the Cathcart family, with Cassillis expressing thanks 'for the Care you have taken of Poor Andrew Cathcart', and suggesting financial arrangements by which he and Cathcart's family can purchase 'a Company' for him. Discusses his health and plans, before telling the recipient that he has 'acquired all the Honor and Glory that any man can wish for'.
