The three items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. All three items are excessively scarce, with no copies of any of them located on either COPAC or WorldCat. ONE (circular letter): 3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Date number '25' and Shepherd's name added in manuscript. The circular begins: 'SIR, | Allow me respectfully to draw your attention to the subject of uniting the Railway systems of Engand with that of the Continent, by means of Tunneling under the Straits of Dover.' There follows a list of officers, down from the chairman, Lord Richard Grosvenor, to the four engineers, of which Low is one. '[...] The confidence which will be given to the public in the success of the undertaking, if the proposed Shafts and Driftways are made, will enable the present Shareholdes to recoup themselves for their outlay, with a handsome profit'. TWO (subscription list): 4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Referred to in Item One as follows: 'I have taken the liberty of enclosing you a List of Subscribers'. Headed: 'The Channel Tunnel Company (Limited.) First Capital to Construct Trial Driftway, £30,000, in 1500 Shares of £20 each. | The liability of each Subscriber is limited to the number of Shares he takes. | No Subscriber shall be called upon until the whole amount is subscribed.' The 99 individuals listed, ranging from the Duke of Sutherland and Marquis of Westminster to 'E. Tootal, Esq., The Weaste' and 'Peter Wood, Esq., M.D., J.P., Southport', have subscribed to 529 shares, totalling £10,580. THREE (map): Printed in lithograph on one side of piece of 27 x 43 cm paper. Headed: 'CHANNEL TUNNEL RAILWAY.' The upper half of the page carries a cross section under the English Channel from England to France; the left-hand side of the lower part a map of the route between the two countries; and the right-hand side a 'SECTION OF DOUBLE TUNNEL SHEWING DRIFTWAYS.' Lightly creased and worn but in good overall condition.
