[4 + 53 + 2] pp., 4to. Frontispiece photograph: 'A group of volumes from the Broadley Napoleon Collection | Showing the style of binding.' In printed wraps. In fair condition, aged and worn, with rusted staples and slight loss to wraps at foot of spine. Index at rear. The main body of the catalogue paginated 31-83, this being 'The Second Portion' of the sale of Broadley library. The title-page lists numerous high spots: 'the Remarkable Grangerized Life of Napoleon I', and ten lines of 'Important Extra-Illustrated Books', as well as eleven lines of 'Rare Coloured Plate Books', and 'An Extensive Collection of | Lives of Napoleon and His Contemporaries, | in English and French. | An Autograph Presentation Copy of Hardy's Dynasts, First Edition, 3 vols., | With several interesting Autograph Letters. | Portraits of Napoleon - Battle Scenes - Portraits of William Pitt - Engravings of the Early 19th Century Volunteer Movement - Medals, Decorations, Relics, &c.' An introductory note, dated December 1916, states: 'Though not so extensive as the famous Latta Collection, it may be claimed that in some respects it is one of the most remarkable and comprehensive Collections dealing with the Napoleonic Era, at present in existence. The Extra-Illustrated "Life of Napoleon," in twenty-eight large folio volumes, would alone give grounds for such a claim, which is further supported by the fact that the Collection includes no less than 18 "Grangerized" sets, several of which - for instance the "Napoleon in Caricature" and the "Life of Nelson" - are in themselves of great interest and importance.' Uncommon: three copies on OCLC WorldCat, no copy at the British Library, and the only copy on COPAC at Manchester.
