1p., 4to. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Addressed to 'Mrs. G. R. Alden, 425 Embarcadero Road, Palo Alto, Calif.' Badger confirms that he has received 'the manuscript of "Nell Jenkins" and "Her Own Way"', and his firm has been 'considering the publication of the book very carefully'. As the two works 'prove up to our expectations, I am enclosing herewith a set of contracts in duplicate for each story, [neither set is present] which you will I trust find satisfactory and one copy of which I hope I may receive without delay.' He concludes in the hope 'that the two books will prove most successful and that it will be but the first of many we are to have the pleasure of publishing for you'. There is no record of either title, nor of any other book by Alden published by Badger. The Gorham Press was primarily a vanity publishing organisation; its papers are now at Harvard.
