It begins: 'Your Excellency, | We beg to bring under your notice the following facts with regard to the present slow murder of the Lord Mayor of Cork in Brixton Prison, as a matter of concern for your Government. | The Lord Mayor of Cork, Terence MacSwiney, was arrested on August 12th. in the City Hall, Cork, by the English Army of occupation. | The City Hall was raided by an English Military force; the Lord Mayor's private room searched; the documents belonging to the City removed, the sole reason for this outrage being that the Lord Mayor had advocated and worked for the Self-Determination of Ireland. | He, the Chief Magistrate of the City, was brought before an English Court Marial, which by virtue of his office, he arraigned as illegal. | But the Court having sufficient physical force behind it, condemned him to two years imprisonment. | The Lord Mayor could only rejoin by falling back on Moral Force, using the only weapon then available to him, the Hunger Strike. | He is not alone in this protest.' A full page of text follows.discussing matters including the 'eleven others in Cork Prison on the point of death fighting with the same weapon for the same principle', and 'the late Lord Mayor MacCurtain, who was murdered on the 21st. March last at his home in Cork, by the English Police Force'. Covering note: 1p., 4to. It reads: 'FOR PUBLICATION. WITH COMPLIMENTS OF ART O'BRIEN. | THE LORD MAYOR OF CORK. | The following is the text of a letter sent to all Foreign Embassies, Legations, etc. in London, and signed by the LADY MAYORESS [MacSwiney's sister Mary], the sisters and brother [Seán MacSwiney] of the LORD MAYOR.'
