[ George Washington Bacon, American-born London cartographer and publisher. ] Facsimile of an Autograph Letter Signed ('G. W. Bacon', with 'Order Form', regarding his new atlas of the world.
The letter is 2pp., 8vo, and the order form 1p., 8vo. In good condition, on aged and worn paper. A skilful facsimile: Bacon has even included an interpolation on the first page to make it look more like an authentic letter. The letter is of 40 lines, and begins: 'I recently had the pleasure of supplying you with a copy of my quarto British Atlas, the great success of which has induced me to undertake a similar one of the World; and after years of patient labour I have at last completed a work which I claim to be in many important respects wholly unrivalled.' He proceeds to describe the atlas, said to 'excel all others in existence', and offers 'to send you a copy, carriage paid, on approval, returnable at my own expense if not retained'. Priices given in a postscript. The 'Order Form' is also presented as a facsimile, in the same handwriting as the letter.
