Good to very good, sl. chipped dj, in plain slipcase, INSCRIBED by Nolde"Aus Herrn Granville dies Kleine Lebensbilds von Emil Nolde mit [?] Neujahr[?]". ALSO ENCLOSED: Typed Letter Signed, Nolde to Granville, Seebull, 8 Jan. 1949, in German, one page, folio, in which he says (rough translation): "A small book called 'My own Life' is finished in its second extended edition. I'll send it to you. It deals with my early childhood years, which surely are of some interest to you. Three further ones were written but it takes a lot of effort to overcome the difficulties of publication. / It is a lovely ideas on your part. Maybe there is a posiblility to stage an exhibition for abroad which then would travel through several countries. If this will happen, I will certainly let you know." He then commiserates with his on the break-up of his "life partnership" and adds New Year good wishes. New Years wishes are add in another hand and signed (not deciphered - prob. Nolde's partner ). ANDA photograph of an aging Nolde from which the image of another person has been cut off irregularly (photographer's stamp on reverse, "[Name obscure] B199 Flensburg"). Note: "Philip Granville (1911–2003) was an art dealer and philanthropist, and director of the former Lord’s Gallery in London."
