4to, 4 pp. Bifolium. Text clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper, with slight chipping at head and tail. Praises the 'good feeling manifested' in Bright's 'eloquent and powerful oration' on the Church of Ireland. He is sending him 'a short unpublished pamphlet on Ireland', 'The Origin of Fenianism'. 'I am an old man, I believe older than you are. I have watched the affairs of Ireland for the last fifty years with an affection and interest which cannot be surpassed. My pen has often pleaded for a different treatment of that unhappy country during that period, from that which has been meted out to her by the Imperial Parliament; [...] I predict that all parties in Ireland will unite to sever the Legislative connexion with England. You may disguise the fact from yourself as you may, but there is a very strong innate feeling in the breasts of most Irishmen, similar to that which prevails in Poland, viz., a longing for national independence. [...] Do you really imagine that the wretched sop which you are now condescendingly flinging to the Roman Catholics and Fenians in Ireland, in the destruction of the Protestant Church, will for one moment hinder them from joining their Protestant fellow-countrymen in maintaining these assertions?'
