Detailed manuscript accounts titled 'The Establishment of his Maties: Forces, officers and souldiers, hors and Foot Intertained in his Maties: Kingdome of Scotland as they are now to be paied, from 1st. October 1667, and after.'
Foolscap bifolium (leaf dimensions 33 x 22.5 cm), 3 pp. On laid paper, with watermark of a horn on a crowned shield, from which dangles a number '4' and the monogram 'WR'. Ink faded, but text clear and complete, on grubby aged paper with some wear to extremities. Written in a neat seventeenth-century clerk hand. Docketed, on the otherwise-blank reverse of the second leaf, 'Establishment of his Maties: Forces'. First section [eleven entries] on first page headed 'His Maties: guard of hors Commanded by the Earl of Atholl'. First entry: 'Captaine ten shillings and 2 horses each two shillings sterling [Per diem] [£0] 14[s] [0d]'. Totalled to £19 3s 8d. Second section (ten entries) on first page headed 'His Maties: guard of hors Commanded by the Earle of Rothes Lord Chancellour'. Totaled to £13 13s 8d. Second page subdivided into four sections, titled: 'His Maties: Regiment of foot Commanded by the Earl of Linlithgow', 'Seaven Companies of foot belonging to that Regiment, & to each Company', 'The Garison of Edinburgh Castle', 'The Garison of Striviling Castle', 'The Garison of Dumbarton Castle'. The third page is headed 'Conforme to the Establishment in the Preceeding two pages, The Pay | Of the Troop Commanded by the Earle of Atholl. | By weik. By moneth. 3 moneths. 6 moneths. 12 moneths. | Of the Troop Comanded by the Earles [sic] of Rothes . | [...]' Ends with 'summa' and Totalis' in 'Sterling' and 'Scots'.
