Item One (Burmese Names): 1p., foolscap 8vo. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper. Signed in red above '(J. C. COBB) | for Senior Asst. Commissioner, | C.I.D., Fed. of Malaya.' First page headed 'SECRET | FEDERATION OF MALAYA POLICE'. 'During the last S.B. course, certain police officers asked questions regarding Burmese names. | 2. The following is a list of titles used which might be mistaken for proper names: -'. The first of three numbered points following the examples: 'N.B. 1. In practice, "Thakin" seems to have a certain honorific value and thus it is seen that the Premier Thakin NU is referred to by the Communists - in armed resurrection [sic] against the Government - as "Maung" NU.' Item Two (Malay Names): 9pp., foolscap 8vo. In good condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. Headed 'MALAY NAMES'. Place and date not stated. Begins: '1. Every effort will be made to record the full name and father's name (and also aliases when known). It is customary nowadays to combine the two, but for Special Branch purposes, "bin" is still used.' Sections on Names; Contractions; Titles, Etc.; followed by a long alphabetical list; and finally 'Malay Titles'. Item Three (International Union of Students): 3pp., foolscap 8vo. In good condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. Headed 'INTERNATIONAL UNION OF STUDENTS.' Begins: 'At the invitation of the "All China Students Federation", an executive meeting of the International Union of Students is being held in Peking from 24-28 April. | Amongst other things, the meeting will discuss the struggle of the students of colonial and dependent countries for peace and national independence. | Any information obtained regarding the evidence given at this conference by residents of the Federation should be reported.' What follows under the heading 'World Peace Movement' discusses incidents in 1950 and 1960. The final paragraph begins: 'This note is published in order that the recipients of the Secret Abstract should have a background of information about the designs of world communism. Every effort is being made to exploit the strong desire for peace which all freedom-loving people entertain, and they are being hoodwinked to follow blindly a lead to an objective which is the anti-thesis [sic] of peace.'
