In manuscript across front cover: 'May 1927 May 31 1929 | Morgan Motor Company Limited'. The volume gives a valuable sidelight into the finances of an iconic British firm, during a boom period in its history, and place the company squarely at the centre of a network of other firms within the motoring industry. Four preliminary pages of printed text relating to Lloyds Bank are followed by the 144 openings, with credits on the left-hand page and debits on the right. In manuscript at the head of the first opening: 'The Morgan Motor Company, Limited.' And printed beneath this, again across the opening: 'in account with | Lloyds Bank Limited | Capital & Counties Bank Branch. | Malvern', the penultimate line being scored through in red ink. The accounts are written in a number of different hands, one of them likely to be that of H. F. S. Morgan himself. The debits are itemised, and include many attributed to a large number of surnames, several of them recurring (for example Churchill, Pearse, Whittle, Perkins, Harvey, Yeates). There are also occasional disbursements outside the motoring industry, for example: 'Harrods' (reminding us that the company had a concession in the London department store, and the only motor car to be placed in its window), 'Temple Press', 'Worc[ester] C[i]ty. C[oun]c[i]l', 'Brooks Bank', 'National Bank', 'HF.S. Morgan Trustees', 'H.G. Morgan'. But a large part of the disbursements are to firms within the motor industry, many of them based in the Midlands.
