Typed 'List of Antique China belonging to the late Sir James Colquhoun, Bart.'; manuscript 'List of China purchased by Mrs Evelyn Carmichael for her step mother Lady Colquhoun'; two letters from H. R. Wallace, Cloncaird Castle; marriage contract.
All items clear, complete, and good, on aged paper. ONE. Mimeographed typed list of Sir James Colquhoun's china ('presently stored with Messrs Wylie & Lochhead, Ltd., Glasgow'): Folio, 14 + [i] pp. Attached with pink ribbon. First entries headed 'Antique China in Press in Morning Room'. With lawyer's signature dated 1908. TWO. Manuscript 'List of China purchased by Mrs Evelyn Carmichael for her step mother Lady Colquhoun of Luss & being half the china at Rossdhu'. 4to, 20 pp; and folio, 7 pp. Listing 380 items. THREE. Two letters (totalling 4to, 7pp), both signed 'Hugh R Wallace'. Both addressed to 'My dear Carmichael' - Mrs Carmichael's husband Evelyn George Massey Carmichael (1871-1959), 29th Chief of the Clan Carmichael. The letters give Wallace's opinion of two 'birds' (gravy boats?): 'I am satisfied that the blazon is Fenwick, and that the birds are intended to be martlets.' FOUR. Mimeographed typed copy of 'Extract Registered Antenuptial Contract of Marriage between Sir James Colquhoun, Bart. and Miss Ivie Muriel Ellen Urquhart (with consent), made up by J. S. & J. W. Fraser-Tytler, W.S. 'Dated 5th Novr. | Regd. 14th Decr. | 1904.' Folio, 16 pp. Attached with pink ribbon. A few pencil markings. With lawyer's signature dated 1906. The presence of Item Four suggests that the inventories were compiled for use in the settlement of a dispute between family members following Sir James Colquhoun's untimely death.
