Both items nicely printed and in good condition, with light signs of age and wear. ONE: 'The Encyclopaedia Britannica Dinner given by Sir Donald Mackenzie Wallace. Hotel Cecil, Friday Evening, November 21st, 1902. Plan of Tables.' 28.5 x 80 cm, folding up into a 28.5 x 13.5 cm packet. Printed in black and red on the whole of one side, with the other side carrying a 'Programme of Music' ('M. G. Fericescu, Musical Director'), an alphabetical table, and a cover with engraved illustration. Made out in pencil to 'Mr. A. Williams | K24' (i.e. the Liberal MP Aneurin Williams).

Wallace, a well-known painter of landscapes and still life subjects in oil and water-colour, was born at Kendal in the Lake District and studied in Kensington at the Byam Shaw and Vicat Cole School of Art. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1922, and at the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Institute of Watercolour Painters, and with the Lake Artists' Society. He was a full member of the Royal Society of British Artists. The present collection casts an interesting light on the efforts of a good English artist to be of use to the war effort. Ten items.

On watermarked laid paper. Dimensions of paper: 23 x 32cm. Dimensions of plate: 14 x 20cm. In fair condition, aged and lightly stained, with creasing and short closed tear to right-hand margin, but with the engraving good and clear. A windy scene, with a turbulent cloudy sky weighing heavily over a disheveled windswept landscape, in which two small figures can be made out on a bridge. Inscribed in pencil beneath the plate: 'Oliver Hall | To R. Wallace | Ed: 40.' The title 'Hayling Island' is in pencil in the bottom right-hand corner.

On F. J. Head & Co. laid paper. Dimensions of paper: 23 x 29cm. Dimensions of plate: 17.5 x 25cm. In fair condition, lightly aged and creased. A wonderful watery view of a winding country river and trees. Inscribed in pencil on the reverse: 'To Father Richard. This is working Proof for drypoint "The River" | Robin Wallace July 1927'. On 5 x 11cm. piece of paper, torn from the conclusion to a typed letter. In good condition, lightly aged. Reads: '[...] myself, you would write to me. | Yours very truly, | Edgar Wallace'.

Printed on one side of a 9.5 x 15 cm piece of green paper. In good condition, lightly-aged and sunned, with one corner slightly-dogeared. The text reads: 'Marianne Craig Moore | Distinguished Alumna of Bryn Mawr College | will present | A Poetry Reading and Commentary | on Monday, January 20, 1958 | at 8:30 o'clock | at Cooper Union | 7th Street and 4th Avenue, New York | Admission free'.

The letter is 12mo, 2 pp, 30 lines. In good condition, with the text clear and entire, and with wear to 0.5 cm strips at head and tail (not affecting the text) where the letter overlaps the top and bottom of the book. The blank second leaf of the bifolium is laid down on the verso of the book's half-title. Nicoll begins by apologising for sending 'a copy of the cheap edition' ('the cloth copies of the second edition are not yet ready, and I do not know when they will be out').

Macaulay's Autograph Letter Signed: '20 H. H. | 29 April'. 2pp., landscape 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Written, in a shaky and difficult hand, in blue ink and signed 'Rose', with 'Macaulay' added in black ink. Addressed to 'Dear Jacqueline'. Apparently written during or immediately after the Second World War, and concerning petrol coupons 'issued so lavishly to the generous & amiable young nobleman

Lindbergh's three letters are each 1p., 8vo. They are in good condition, on lightly-aged paper; the first letter has a short closed tear at the head. Lindbergh begins the first letter by commending an 'article on whales' by Bourne. 'When we talked in London during the meetings of the International Whaling Commission, you mentioned sending me some papers you had written in regard to conservation planning.

The four items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Letter to 'Mr. Bourne': 1p., 8vo. Replying to a letter from Bourne, he states that he will be 'very pleased to serve on the proposed "advisory board", provided that no financial liabiltiy is thereby incurred by me, & that no great amount of travelling is involved.' He concludes with the news that he is 'still busy on a hypersonic transport aircraft especially designed to take "containers".' The two photographs are both in black and white.

Regarded as lost for 35 years this drama documentary, directed by John Alaimo, was discovered in a Barcelona bank vault in 2009, and has recently been released on DVD. The nine items are in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. One: 'Gaudi | Treatment by Michael J. Cooper | April 1974'. [i] + 4pp., foolscap 8vo, in plastic folder. Two: 'Story Outline' for 'Antonio Gaudi | The Unfinished Vision | A Special Television Film Production'.

Expert in "Dramatic Construction" gained in years of practical experience on the stage, and in films. Adapts stories to the talking films, the bigger the story with opportunities of being developed on a large scale, the better.' Addressed to 'Commander L. Mimeographed typed list of Sir James Colquhoun's china ('presently stored with Messrs Wylie & Lochhead, Ltd., Glasgow'): Folio, 14 + [i] pp. Attached with pink ribbon. First entries headed 'Antique China in Press in Morning Room'. With lawyer's signature dated 1908. TWO. Manuscript 'List of China purchased by Mrs Evelyn Carmichael for her step mother Lady Colquhoun of Luss & being half the china at Rossdhu'. 4to, 20 pp; and folio, 7 pp. Listing 380 items. THREE. Two letters (totalling 4to, 7pp), both signed 'Hugh R Wallace'.

All three letters 12mo: the first of three pages, and the last two one page apiece. Texts clear and complete. Good, on lightly-aged paper. Letter One: Sir Henry Vansittart Neale will be pleased to allow Grundy 'a look at his pictures' at Bisham Abbey. Gives directions. Discusses Grundy's letter in the Daily Express, complaining about the 'crowding out' of pictures at the Royal Academy.

8vo: 56 pp. In original blue printed wraps. Unopened. Good, on lightly-aged paper, in creased and slightly-chipped wraps. The title of Smith's catalogue of Wallace's collection ('Read Jan. 15, 1863') ends '[...] By Frederick Smith, Assistant in the Zoological Department, British Museum. Communicated by W. W. Saunders, Esq., F.R.S. & L.S.' It runs from p.6 to p.48. Detailed catalogue preceded by brief note by Smith. Smith's 'Catalogue of Hymenopterous Insects' had appeared in 7 parts between 1853 and 1859.

The calendar proper (clear and complete on aged paper) consists of 12 unpaginated 8vo pages, with photographs and some facsimiles of handwriting on the rectos and the calendar itself, with memorable radical dates, on the versos. Photographs of Edward Bellamy, 'Principal Writers of "The Clarion" ', Tom Mann, William Morris, and Alfred Russel [sic] Wallace, and Count Leo Tolstoy. The calendar is encased in a loose 8vo bifolium, with four unpaginated printed pages. It is titled 'The Labour Annual Calendar: 1896. Edited by Joseph Edwards'.

One page, 12mo. Good, on aged and lightly spotted paper, but with blank verso showing traces of previous mounting. Nine-line printed biographical cutting laid down in top left-hand corner. Reads 'Madam, In accordance with your request I enclose my autograph'.

The majority of the material is on leaves of foolscap paper. The collection is in good condition: lightly aged and with some wear to extremities. Assembled by Lever during the course of his training as an officer in the Fiji Defence Force, it gives a valuable insight into colonial military procedure. Occasional manuscript additions and corrections. Arranged in four folders. FIRST FOLDER ('H.M. Customs, Fiji.') contains: ONE: [2 pages] Army School of Instruction. New Zealand Expeditionary Force 1940. War Equipment Tabel. Infantry (Rifle) Battalion. TWO: [5 pages] Army School of Instruction.

Two pages, on letterhead of roughly 13.5 x 17.5 cms. He has sent a wire accepting the 'kind invitation'. '[A]s you can imagine we are rehearsing all day and every day at the present [...] The only thing thaht could stop me being with you is that we are, I understand, to record the "Fanny" music for a long-playing record on that Saturday'.
