12 pp. Complete and clear, on browned high-acidity paper. According to one authority 'The People's Convention (P.C.) began life as the People's Vigilance Committee, set up by the Hammersmith Labour Party and Trades Council in July 1940. The leading figure was Denis Noel Pritt, a recently expelled Labour M.P., but the aims were very much in line with the policies of the Communist Party (C.P.) in that period of the Phoney War.' The Convention met in January 1941 and folded at the end of the year. A valuable and revealing piece of ephemera, unusually critical of the wartime state of affairs on the home front. Set out like a newspaper, with the first-page feature beginning: '"Something has got to be done about this food situation." That is the urgent demand that is being made by townsfolk and country folk alike. that is what working men and women are saying all over Britain.' Cartoon of Churchill on first page, and nine photographs (one captioned 'The "best people" are not noticeably near starvation.'). Articles include: 'M.P. on those Multiple Stores' ('Lewis's or Mark & Spencer's'), 'Bankers Throttle Farmers', 'The Land is being Starved of Fertiliser', 'Awfully Jolly War', 'More Wheat, Milk, Fruit, Vegetables: And Why Not?', 'A very dirty story | Food Speculation Rampart', 'The Jam Scandal'. The only attributed article is 'Choose Your Future | By D. N. Pritt, K.C., M.P.' Central spread: 'People's Convention is fighting to get more food for the people | Those demands must be met'. COPAC only lists the Warwick copy.
