Two copies, One printed page, 12mo, good condition. An unknown hand has written in pencil on the reverse, pp.18 and 20, concerning the Soviets, Bolsheviks and Kerensky. P.18 commences: "the Soviets having everywhere grown strong through their peace propaganda and the ['propagation of the' excised] of the realisation in practice of their slogan 'All Power to the Soviets' Nov. 7 - the greatest date in Russian history [...]" The handbill fulminates against the possibility of Allied aid to the Polish "squires and militarists' (their "unprovoked attack", etc).

Black and white photographic print, 21 x 14 cm. Creased and stained, with short closed tear at head and slight loss to one corner. Robeson's inscription, in the bottom left-hand corner, reads: 'To "Dora" | With all good wishes and all good fortune. | Paul Robeson | "Show Boat" | London 1929'. The image is a head and shoulders shot of an assured Robeson in jacket, shirt and tie.

2pp., 12mo. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper. 'I've the vividest memory of starting at Bouverie St. 38 years ago, in 1911, & of the thrill of speaking to him (on the top corridor). The Abbey Co. was just then at the Court, so our enthusiasm about it & its works made two very shy people articulate! | Since then, how much real pleasure I've owed to him!! The News Chronicle will never quite seem the same again.'

Lynd | 5, Keats Grove | Hampstead | N.W.3' Good, on lightly-aged paper, in worn envelope docketed by Gaster 'From Rose Macaulay re Fascist meeting in the Albert Hall 1935 [sic]?' The letter is addressed to 'Dear B. J.' ('B. J.', short for 'Baby Junior', being Maire Lynd's family nickname). Macaulay begins: 'Many thanks for this, which I return in case it is wanted.

State Structure', begins with the entries under the subheadings 'People's Congress', 'People's Government', 'State Council' and 'Commissions Directly Under State Council'. This is followed by: 'B. Accompanying the letter is a translation (2pp., 8vo) by Colin Jordan, with the assistance of Dr Loukas Christodloulos. The letter is of great interest, casting light on Leigh Fermor's activities in Crete in the period following the Second World War.

Both copies 16pp., 12mo, and both stapled in white wraps. Copy 1: Published by the Chinese People's Committee for World Peace and Against American Aggression. Title printed in red. Name of author given at foot of last page: '---- By LIN TA-KUANG.' In fair condition, aged, and on browned high-acidity newsprint, in creased wraps. Copy 2: 'Daily News Release' copy. Title given in black. Apparently identical in its typesetting to Copy 1, but without the author's name. In fair condition, on aged and worn paper, with short pencil notes on cover and elsewhere.

Priced at one penny on cover, with vignette showing three workers and the banner 'VIVE LA COMMUNE!' The back cover carries advertisements (which date the item), beginning with 'Freedom | A Journal of Anarchist Communism, | Monthly; One Penny. Annual subscription 1/6. Published by John Turner at No. 127 Ossulston Street, London, N.W.', followed by twelve numbered books from 'No. 1. THE WAGE SYSTEM. BY PETER KROPOTKINE. 1d.' to 'No. 12.

In yellow wraps printed in black and red, with 'Object' and 'Declaration of Principles' of the SPC inside the front cover, and advertisements for SPC publications on both sides of the back cover. Stapled. In fair condition, aged and worn, with pencil ownership inscriptions of 'Jean Thurlow'. The Preface begins: 'This pamphlet was first published in 1910 as the Manifesto of the Socialist Party of Canada. During the ten-year period ending in 1920, five editions, totalling more than 25,000 copies, were issued.

Printed in black on one side of a piece of 32 x 20.5 cm paper. Fold mark. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Illustration of Viet Cong holding up an AK47 in top right-hand corner. Dense text beginning: 'The heroic People's Liberation Armed Forces and the people of South Vietnam are trouncing the Americann aggressors, the main enemy of the people of the world.' Sections headed: 'PEOPLE'S VICTORIES IN SOUTH VIETNAM', 'BRITISH IMPERIALISM - U.S. STOOGE' and 'FALSE SOLIDARITY AND ACTUAL BETRAYAL'. Slogans at foot of page: 'U.S.

Paper wraps, 156pp., folio, stapled, edges slightly ragged, minor damage and marking to last page, text complete. No copy on COPAC, a few copies on WorldCat (description either complicated or confusing or inaccurate).

50pp., 8vo, stapled as issued, minor defects, mainly good. Note: Unless otherwise indciated, these materials are full translations of articles appearing in Chinese Communist newspapers or releases emanating from Chinese Communist news agencies.

Malaysian original: vi+21pp., 8vo. English translation: vi+17pp., 8vo. Both printed in same layout and format, and both in red and black printed card wraps. Foreword, dated 24 October 1966, by Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs Tun (Dr) Ismail bin Dato Haji Abdul Rahman. Malaysian original near fine; English translation very good, with bumped corner.

The three documents mimeographed on folio paper. Part III: 21pp. Part IV: 24pp. Part V: 18pp.; totalling 63pp. All three in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with the last leaves of Parts III and IV loose.

60pp., foolscap 8vo. Dogeared, and with first and last leaf creased, otherwise very good on lightly-aged paper. With a few manuscript corrections (by Hyde?). The talk itself covers pp.1-22, and the session of 'Questions and Answers' pp.23-60. Typed notes in the text (Spelling?', 'Distorted', 'Indistinct') indicate that the transcription was made from a recording. Besides the questions in the latter section are pencil notes relating to the identity of the questioner ('Craig', 'Scott', 'Asian', 'Australian').

8pp., foolscap 8vo. With a few pencil emendations. In good condition. The document is divided into sections discussing MCP aims, tactics, 'Youth, Students and Schoolchildren', 'Labour', propaganda, 'The United Front', and a conclusion. 'It should be clearly understood that the Malayan Communist Party owes allegiance to the World Communist Movement led by the Soviet Union, with Communist China in close support, which aims to set up (by revolutionary means if necessary) a World Union of Socialist Soviet Republics.

The documents are numbered 1 and 2. Both very good, on lightly-aged paper. Document 1: 2pp., foolscap 8vo. Headings read: 'Calcutta Conference - March 1947', 'Start of Emergency - 20 Jun 48', 'Advantages to CTO', 'Results', 'Government wresting the advantage from the CTO', 'Success against CTO' and 'Conclusion - Operation Bamboo'. Dates and figures have been added over the two pages, on subjects including Operation Parchment, Operation Chieftain, Operation Shark, Operation Bintang and Operation Ginger.

3pp., 8vo. Two pages of text and a full-page map of Burma. The text begins: 'The insurgents in Burma, some 24,000 strong, are variously motivated by ideology, ethnic aspirations or prospects of profits from smuggling and dacoity.' From the private papers of C. A. A. Nicol, who joined the Malayan Union Police Force in 1950, and served in the Royal Malaysian Police between 1957 and 1967, 'to assist in promoting and consolidating the successful transition to full independence.

2pp., foolscap 8vo. Good, on creased and lightly-aged paper. Divided into eight numbered sections, under the following headings: 'The General Problems Relating to the Revolution', 'The Present Duty of the Organisation', 'The Other Requirements for the Armed Struggle'. The document begins: 'Based on the assumption that more than 80% of the population of SARAWAK are farmers and that this farming class is made up of all races, the revolution of the farmers is the revolution of the farmers of all races.

First document: 'PART E601 | SPECIAL BRANCH'. 3pp., foolscap 8vo. Creased, otherwise good. Begins with 'Definition', then description of 'main duties', 'Organisation', 'Contingent Special Branch', 'Circle Special Branch' and 'Military Intelligence Officers'. The 'Guide' is 18pp., foolscap 8vo. Very good, on lightly-aged paper. From the papers of the Honorary Secretary of Finsbury Habitation 596, Mrs L. Vernon Sparrow, 20 Wharton Street, WC1, who has annotated the mimeographed circular relating to her branch, and jotted a few notes on the back of the third booklet. The four booklets are all scarce, with no copies of any of them on COPAC. They are printed on aged high-acidity paper, with light creasing and wear; the mimeographed circular is on aged and lightly-worn paper. First booklet: 'Are you a Patriot?' 4pp., 16mo. Bifolium.

The collection is in very good condition, lightly-aged, and with only a handful of items with light damp staining. 60 issues of Peking Review ('A weekly magazine of Chinese news and views') between 4 January 1963 and 17 December 1965, comprising 17 issues from 1963, between no. 1 (4 January) and no. 25 (21 June); one issue from 1964 (no. 49, 4 December); 42 issues from 1965, between no. 6 (5 February) and no. 51 (17 December). Accompanying the issues are two of the air mail envelopes in which the magazine was sent to Basil Stein in London from China by distributors Guozi Shudian.

1p., 4to. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper, with a few short closed tears along fold lines. He apologises for replying with 'un retard inqualifiable!' He apologises profoundly for 'ce contretemps' which has not allowed him to thank Mansfield properly 'pour l'Admiration que vous avez bien voulu me temoigner - sans doute à l'occasion de l'un des derniers Salons à Paris'. He is sending a photograph, with his autograph.

8pp., 12mo. Stapled. In fair condition, on aged art paper, with fore-edges curling a little. Photographic reproduction on cover 'From the original pencil sketch of DR. ROBERT DUNSTAN by the Russian artist IVANOV. Moscow 1924.' Scarce: no copy in the British Library, and the only copy on Copac at the London School of Economics, dated to 1924. With undated leaflet (1p., 12mo) titled 'Why you should join the Communist Party', printed by 'Centropress Ltd., TU, 168 Camberwell Road, London, SE5'. On leaf of aged paper, chipped at edges.

20pp, 12mo. Stapled. In red printed wraps, with cartoon on cover showing giant worker sweeping away miniature capitalists. In fair condition: lightly-aged and with central vertical fold. Scarce: the only copies on COPAC at the British Library and Warwick University.

12mo, 8 pp. Staining and slight damage to first leaf from rust from staples, otherwise good on aged paper. (Two words of text are lacking, but easily supplied in the following: 'to die the struggle' and ve this message to my friends'). Slug carries code 'CP/C/29/4/43.', the last three elements indicating the date of publication. The front page carries a photograph of Clough, a twenty year-old 'reported missing from an operational flight', and reproduces a letter left by him for his parents.
