Writing to Bentley in his position as editor of 'Temple Bar' magazine, Boucicault begins: you were kind enough to say some time since that you would publish a slight story of mine I had sent you, but returned it to me with the expression that I had not succeeded in bringing out with the best effect portions that were capable of great improvement.' He states that he has been 'unable to touch' the story, and so is returning it to Bentley in the hope that he will 'publish it in its original form'.

1p., landscape 8Vo. In fair condition, aged and with a number of vertical crease lines. Reads: 'Dear Mr Clarkson, | Will you please give instructions that any wigs that are being made for Sir Arthur Pinero's new play should be here not later than 11 o'clock on Monday morning next. Our Dress Parade is at 12 o'clock.' The play Boucicault refers to is 'The Widow of Wasdale Head'.

Actor-manager (1859-1929), son of the actor and dramatist. "Dear Mr Cabourn / As Mr Barrie's new play has turned out there is no part in it that would have been at all suitable to yourself. I wish there had been." The reference is to "Alice-Sit-by-the-Fire" by J. M. Barrie (1860-1937), which, written for Ellen Terry and replacing his "Peter Pan" at the Duke of York's, ran for 115 productions. Loss to one of the lower corners.
