For biographical information about Commander Plowden, see the Times obituary quoted at the end of this description. All five items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Item One: Typed copy of letter from 'Trevor' to 'Mother and Pater'. 2pp., 4to. Headed 'Copy'. With envelope addressed to Miss Martin Wood, c/o Lt. Gen Phelps, Woodbourne Grange, Edgbaston. (As Item Three shows, this copy was made by Plowden's mother for his aunt.) 'I told you we expected to go to the Black Sea from here and we did very shortly afterwards, to Odessa.

1p., 12mo. Good, on lightly-aged paper. With envelope addressed by Wilkinson to Wood at Underwood, Oatlands Avenue, Weybridge. He disavows 'The Lost Possessions of England', explaining that he 'discussed the concessions of England to Germany in volumes published in 1894 & 1896'. He has 'not time now to write another book. The business of us all now is to do what we can to save our country & France from the German attack'.

the daughter of the aurist and laryngologist W. J. Chichele Nourse. In 1913 she married the mathematician Arthur Herbert Leahy (later Professor at the University of Sheffield). All items clear and complete, on lightly-aged paper, apart from one letter, in an envelope marked 'Margarets first letter from school - Jany./98 | dropped into the fire by Will's mistake'. The thirty-nine items to her parents (thirty-seven of them to her mother), all in purple ink, total more than 230 pages of neatly and closely written text. All letters signed 'Margaret Nourse'.
