She has 'finished the brown drawing of elves, & birds singing', and, as she is going into the country for a few days, will leave it, 'in a portfolio', at Stratton St. She asks him to 'kindly take care of it', as he has been 'good enough to do with the others. It is, as you know, a very careful & highly-finished drawing'. She asks him to have 'the delicacy of the lines reproduced, & the drawing of the limbs of the little elves, etc. very carefully & exactly rendered, otherwise the drawing wd.

32 pages, 4to. In original grey boards, the cover printed with two illustrations. Brown cloth spine. An uncommon item; this copy in poor condition: creased, grubby, stained and worn, with the original staples having rusted away, leaving the central signatures loose. Endpapers carrying advertisements. 6 illustrations, 2 of them to a poem entitled 'THE NINE JOSKINS BOLD.'

Children's writer. One page, sm. fol. Vestiges of hinges. Signed and dated by Fyleman. The Poems written in Fyleman's hand are: "I stood against the window" (2 verses, total 16 lines; and "Have you watched the Fairies?", 3 verses, total 9 lines.

Poet, critic, editor of "Punch" (1861-1936). He criticises something she has written about fairies, sympathising with children's lack of understanding and concluding that he has encountered the things she describes "when there are no Fairies in the neighbourhood".
