Good firm signature at foot of one side of 13.5 x 8.5cm card. The rest of the page is blank, and the reverse has printed text for a post card. In fair condition, aged and with negligible effect to signature from rectangle of slight browning on card perhaps caused by extended contact with newspaper cutting.

1p., 12mo. In good condition, lightly aged and creased. In envelope addressed by Smith to Owston-Booth at Beckenham in Kent. She thanks her, explaining: 'I very seldom contribute [to] symposiums, and it is not possible for me to do so at present as I am exceedingly busy and am just arranging to go to America'. For the same reason she cannot arrange to see her either.

64 + 16pp., 16mo. In blue cloth binding, with cover design stamped in gilt. All edges gilt. In fair condition, aged, worn and shaken, with rear endpaper torn away. Coloured frontispiece showing 'The Soldier and the Blind Fiddler'. At rear is a sixteen-page catalogue of 'Books for the Young, Published by Knight and Son, 12, Clerkenwell Close.' Now scarce: although there are 10 copies on WorldCat (where the book is ascribed to Goodrich, and dated), none of them, or on COPAC, are noted as being in Britain.

Thomas McKenny Hughes was the son of Rev. Joshua Hughes and his wife Margaret, daughter and of Sir Thomas McKenny, Lord Mayor of Dublin. He entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1853 (B.A., 1857), and joined the Geological Survey in 1861. He was Woodwardian Professor of Geology, Cambridge University, 1873-1917, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1889. He was the prime mover behind the creation of the Sedgwick Museum in Cambridge. In November 1882 he married Mary Caroline Weston, daughter of Canon G. F. Weston.

The collection in good condition, on lightly aged and worn paper. The eleven items range in size from 38 x 26 cm to 22.5 x 21.5 cm. Six with the stamp of the firm's London distributor, A. R. Ware of 35 Paternoster Row. Three circulars (totalling 4pp., 4to), all on the firm's green letterhead, include one duplicated letter, with the cyclostyled signature of Robert Hill, all headed 'Picture Boards, Toy Books and Annuals'.

Three examples of the same bookplate: on green, blue and cream paper. All three in very good condition, lightly-aged. Paper dimensions: 4.5 x 5.5 cm. Illustration dimensions: 3 x 4 cm. The image, reproducing an eighteenth-century engraving, depicts two children seated at a table and studying, with a globe on the floor between them. Beneath the image: 'KINDERBUCH-SAMMLUNG | VON WALTER SCHATZKI'. Accompanied by slip of paper with manuscript note regarding reproduction 'in Photo-Litho', after 'permission received O.K. from Walter's'.

36pp., 4to. With numerous illustrations of covers. Unbound and stapled. In fair condition, lightly-aged with rusted staples. Addendum, dated 2 July 1917, in red ink on label tipped-in onto front cover. Series include: 'Cecil Aldin's Fine Art Animal Books', 'E. J. In poor condition, on aged and worn paper, with closed tears, and lacking orange wraps (which presumably carry the full title-page), traces of which are still present. Stamp and shelfmark of the Board of Education Library, London. No copy traced on COPAC or OCLC WorldCat.

Includes 26pp. of tables. Preface (p.2) by Gater and 'Appendix II' (pp.19-20) by Sir Cyril Burt ('Memorandum by Dr. Cyril Burt, Psychologist in the Education Officer's Department of the London County Council.') The only copy on COPAC at the Guildhall Library, City of London, and the only two copies on OCLC WorldCat both in the United States.

Both items in good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with Item One carrying the stamp and shelfmarks of the Board of Education Library. Item One ('Brief Statement): 4pp., 12mo. Bifolium. Decorative cover with line of heraldic shields with axes. At the head of one side of the leaf is a list of the Society's officers, in three columns of small type, beneath which is an eleven-line statement of the Mission's aims, beginning 'Our Mission work for fourteen years has been - Visiting the Sick - Feeding the Hungry - Clothing the Ragged - Comforting the Widow and Fatherless'.

The eight items all in good condition, on lightly-aged paper. Each copy of 'The Childerley Times' is a unique manuscript or typescript item produced by the young D. W. King as editor, his twin sister E. W. King as sub-editor, and relatives for circulation among the family. The five issues, ranging from 1935 to 1943, all differ with regard to style and format. ONE: 19pp., 12mo. On loose leaves held together with a paper clip. Undated, but with one contribution dated 14 May 1934. No title, but first page (with pencil drawing of boy in bed with toys) reading 'SILENCE PLEASE !!

One page, folio, part-printed, part manuscript, edges chipped, small closed tears on fold marks and at top and bottom edges, some staining but text clear and complete. The document gives the terms they agree, and Montalba has added I acknowledge the receipt of £50 the signatures for which [?] various sums stand in the cash book-as payment for the wood cuts for the above work & which is to [be] charged in the account | ARMontalba. Note: According to the BLC this work was written by A.Whitehill, translating Montalba.

Printed in red ink on one side of a piece of wove paper roughly 27 x 21 cm. Text complete and clear, on aged paper with wear to margins. Headed 'The Old Boys' Book Club & Circulating Library, 51 Seaforth Road, Seaforth, Liverpool.' Attractively printed in a variety of types and point sizes. Under the heading is the word 'WANTED.' Followed by twenty-one lines of wants, beginning 'Old Boys' Books, Penny Dreadfuls, Old Penny Illustrated Romances of all kinds printed before 1885.

One page, 12mo. Good, on lightly aged paper with some traces of previous mount adhering to blank reverse. He sends 'a thousand thanks' (for her invitation), but will 'then be over the seas & far away. I wish you the very pleasantest afternoon.' Sends his regards to her husband.

English educationalist and philanthropist (1807-77). One page, 12mo. Good, but on discoloured paper and with remnants of three labels from previous mounting adhering. Reads 'Dear Sir | The parcel went off to-day by Luggage train. It can be opened if more convenient to pack. | Please to let me know which sketch you prefer. The Red Sea, the Distant Pyramids or Garibaldi's Island.'
