He thanks Hodson for his letter, explaining that the last meeting of the Committee before the vacation was held on the previous day, but that he will 'write to Mr. Ansell in accordance with your suggestion'. He is indebted to Hodson for his offer of assistance. He will be grateful if Hodson can 'get in touch with Mr. Dangerfield and can suggest his asking the Society for its opinion'. Hodson was a wealthy brewer and patron of the Arts and Crafts movement.

Beneath this, in copperplate, 'Bought of I: Crokatt | at the Golden Key near | ye. Inner-Temple-Gate | Fleet-Street.' Crokatt, an associate of Dodsley, with whom Samuel Johnson worked, traded from the 1720s to the 1750s.

Formal letter in the third person, requesting the return of 'Mr. Charles Cathcarts clothes, when they have been disinfected, directed to Prince of Wales Terrace Scarborough'. He is 'pretty well, and she thinks the change & sea air at Scarborough will most likely restore him to his usual health'. He 'would be glad to get his clothes as soon as they are considered quite free of infection'.
