The photographs come from a range of news agencies (Associated Press; UPI; Publifoto Roma; Keystone; Dalmas-Orion; APIS Paris; Agence France-Presse; AGIP; Europress; Telephoto), and range in size from 20 x 30 cm down. The collection is in fair overall condition, but some of the prints are dogeared and worn, and others are affected by damp, which has attached a couple of them to one another. A few of the prints are marked up on the reverse for publication. The pictures range between posed images of the pair, done with their consent, to paparazzi shots of one or the other, in several of which Jamagne is clearly uncomfortable. Among the situations in which the couple are seen, they are: walking arm in arm in the street, attending functions, riding horses, skiing, resting in a garden, getting in to and out of cars, meeting friends, on a beach. Many of the photographs have a mimeographed typed label pasted onto the reverse (most in English but a handful in French), as for example: 'Townsend sees "Vertigo" | Peter Townsend (right - rear) stands in the lobby of the Hibiya Cinema, Tokyo, November 11, as Marie Luce Jamagne (left), his secretary gives tickets to the attendant. Townsend and Miss Jamagne saw Alfred Hitchcock's "Vertigo". The film is a box office hit in Tokyo and Townsend had to buy his bookings at over-prices from ticket touts before he went to the cinema. | AP/TOK.H.19789 151158 N. | Associated Press photo from London'. Another label reads: 'BX 2089 BRUSSELS BUREAU | COUPLE OF THE DAY | BRUSSELS: Group Captain Peter TOWNSEND and his wife Marie-Luce JAMAGNE in their jaguar as they leave their hide-out at Ocquier for the first time since their secret wedding at Watermael, (a suburb of Brussels) december 21st. | Credit U.P.I. photo | 12/23/59 LN PR FK'. Nine of the caption labels have become detached from their prints. The collection derives from a French news source, and a makeshift folder is present, marked 'TOWNSEND | femme et enfants', containing two photographs. Townsend married Marie-Luce Jamagne, the daughter of Franz Jamagne of Brussels, in 1959, and the couple had a son and two daughters.
