Inside front board, the bookplate of Charles Wentworth Dilke, with an additional small round printed label stating, "The Property of Sir Charles W. Dilke, 76 Sloane St. Catalogue No. [376]". Part of authorial inscription on titlepage removed by ruthless binder, leaving the words "hommage de | l'auteur", a Belgian economist, one of the co-founders of the Institut de Droit International in 1873 .Apparently a scarce pamphlet.

ix + 252pp., 8vo. In sturdy modern green buckram binding. On brittle browned high-acidity paper, with the half-title and title leaves detached. Stamp, shelfmarks and label of the Ministry of Education Reference Library, London. Printed on half-title: 'Vie de Maitre Thomas et de son Disciple Sourt-Muet Petit-Paul', beneath which, in manuscript: 'Presented by the Belgian Governt. | 1842.' Frontispiece lithograph by H. Goemaere of the 'Alphabet Manuel des Sourds-Muets'. The author is described on the title-page as: 'L'Abbé C.

The photographs come from a range of news agencies (Associated Press; UPI; Publifoto Roma; Keystone; Dalmas-Orion; APIS Paris; Agence France-Presse; AGIP; Europress; Telephoto), and range in size from 20 x 30 cm down. The collection is in fair overall condition, but some of the prints are dogeared and worn, and others are affected by damp, which has attached a couple of them to one another. A few of the prints are marked up on the reverse for publication.

The majority of the photographs are in good condition though lightly aged, with around 20 showing varying degrees of damage involving staining and chipping. The album itself is worn and aged, in a binding heavily-worn at spine and corners, and with spotted and aged leaves.

With stamped, postmarked envelope, addressed in Oliphant's hand to 'Miss Niggeman at C.1. Albany, Piccadilly, W.1.'
