'I received safely by the Coach the two books which you were kind enough to send me, and which I shall equally prize from their intrinsic interest as from the memorial which they afford me of the author'. He has also received Sharp's letter, but is 'unable at present to avail myself of your profitable invitation and proposals, in order by your guidance to give myself a more intimate acquaintance with North Durham than I possess'.
