Printed in gold on one side of a piece of thin card. In very good condition. The message reads: 'May Christmas and the New Year bring | Your Excellency Happiness and Prosperity | and | your Country Honour and Victory. | GENERAL SIR BABER SHUM SHERE JUNG, | Bahadoor Rana, | Nepalese Army. | Delhi, 1916.'

1p., landscape 12mo (16 x 20.5 cm). Addressed on reverse 'To | John Bowring Esqre | 6 Freeman's Court | Cornhill'. In good condition, lightly aged and worn. Folded into a packet for hand-delivery. Written in a crabbed, difficult hand. Begins: 'Tomorrow I will send you a copy of my Character [clearly 'The Life and Character of the Duke of Wellington', which is however generally ascribed to his namesake the Earl of Ellesmere], which you will see <?> Blaquiere <?> is just now in demand. Also a work which i can only lend him. <?> The Fragment ought [last word underlined three times] to be sent'.

[10] + 179pp. Seven fold outs, comprising five tables, a 'Chart showing terms used in Gurkha relationships', and a coloured 'Skeleton Map of Nepal | Showing Distribution of Tribes' ('Published under the direction of Colonel Commandant E. A. Tandy, R.E., Surveyor General of India.') Internally in good condition, lightly aged and worn, in worn binding with black cloth spine and cream boards with printed front cover, which carries the ownership signature of 'Phillips'. Ex Libris of R. A. Scoates on front pastedown.

Two pages, 8vo, good condition. Attached by Singha, typed extract from "The Times of India, 9 May 1945. | Nepal's Claim to send Delegates" to the San Francisco Conference. An editorial in the periodical "The Queen" questioned why Nepal hadn't been invited, suggesting its population and sacrifices of "the bravest soldiers in the world" in the Allied cause would justify an invitation. Gurkhas "have eight Victoria Crosses in the Allied cause". In his letter, Shingha says. that he received the cutting which he attaches (as above) to the letter.

On one side of an 11 x 17.5 piece of light-blue paper. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with two fold lines (not affecting signature). The signature is written in pencil, and reads 'Rambahadur Limbu V.C.' Beneath the signature, in blue ink, is the signature of 'Ranjit Rai', and beneath this, in a different blue ink, an indecipherable signature. With newspaper cutting, dated 28 September 1966, of article titled 'After the glory - it's back to the jungle'. The article carries two photographs of Limbu.

Advert. leaf, Title-page, pp.[1]-302, sl. shaken, hinge strain, corners bumped, some marking, but still a goodlooking book. The first thrust of the plot isan expedition, plant-hunting in Northern India and the Himalayas which they cross to Seksura on the River Arun in Nepal(possibly invented names, perhaps inspired by Aranachan Pradesh). While there they hunted wild boar, attempted to climb Mount Everest (15 April 1868). They travelled to Khatang (which exists), Tashay,, Amarpore, a tiger hunt (successful), another tiger-hunt, jackals, lynxes.
