Hand (1907-86), an authority on American folklore, was Professor of Germanic Languages and Folklore at the University of California, Los Angeles. 9 pages (paginated as stated), octavo. In very good condition in light-blue printed card wraps. Minor spotting and discoloration. A 'survey, essentially, of the physical harm wrought by conjurers, [...] a discussion of sickness and disease, and other categories of physical impairment, and [...] a consideration of the nature of the magic employed, and the various circumstances and conditions under which it is carried out'.

In very good condition, one vertical crease from catalogue being folded on itself, and with negligible rust staining from staple. The sale comprised 'Lady's and Gentleman's Single, Tandem, Roadster and Road Racer Safeties, Including Osmonds, Humbers, Simpsons, Acatenes, Royal Psychos, Popular Starleys, Premiers, Cameos, Raglans, Olympic, &c., &c.', sold on behalf of 'Mr. PERCY L. YOUNG'. Front wrap headed 'Priced Catalogue' in manuscript 'CONDITIONS OF SALE' on verso of front wrap.

Signed printed 'Memorandum of Agreement', with typewritten additions, between the author Bill Adler and Anthony Blond Limited for 'a work provisionally entitled "LOVE LETTERS TO THE BEATLES" '.

4 pages on 4to bifoliate. Several printed clauses deleted, and with the terms inserted in typescript. Two signatures: one is Adler's and the other, illegible, is probably Blond's. A typewritten additional clause appoints Scott Meredith Inc. of New York as his literary agents. According to the British Library catalogue 'Love Letters to the Beatles. Selected by B. Adler. Illustrated by Osborn.' was published by Blond in 1964.
