3pp., 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition, on lightly-aged paper, with negligible traces of mount on blank reverse of second leaf. Written in a somewhat difficult hand. The letter begins: 'My Votes are I am happy to say at liberty I enclose them'. She continues by expressing her 'distress' at the health of one of her sisters, who has been 'at St Leonards - she is I am thankful to say now out of danger'. She sends the best wishes of 'Mrs Burns', noting that 'the Election is in April'.

Three pages, 4to, some marking, but text clear and complete. Campbell claims to be in "habits of confidence" with "the Nabob's [Nabob of Arcot]" and is requesting that a high level letter give full "redress for grievances" rather than having a "hackneyed stile". The letter contains references to people and events which demand close knowledge of this period of Indian history, particularly revealing of relations with at least one Indian Ruler.

On one side of a piece of 15 x 17 cm paper. In good condition, on lightly aged and creased paper. The illustration is roughly 10.5 x 16 cm, and shows a bearded oriental warrior, with plumed headpiece, spear and knife in belt, leading an oversized horse. The disproportionate nature of the composition suggests that the male figure was added to the existing illustration of the horse.

He is enclosing a cheque for a month's salary 'as a parting present from the Ranu & myself'. She has been 'precisely like one of the family', and her 'leaving us & the children for good, is a very great wrench to us all'. 'Bunna & Tootie' will miss her 'terribly', and 'it will be not an easy matter to get the place you are vacating, filled in suitably'.
