Wodehouse occupied the position of Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs between 1859 and 1861. The letter reads: 'Sir, | With reference to your letter of the 20th.

The six items are all in good condition, with light age and wear. Each letter is docketted. Items One to Five below are by John Baptist Cashel Hoey, and Item Six is by his wife. An intimate, affectionate and entertaining correspondence, the background to which is given at the end of this entry. ONE: Signed 'Cashel'. From Campden Hill Road, on cancelled letterhead of 8 Victoria Chambers; 9 April 1887. 2pp., 8vo. The letter is on the first page, and begins: 'I told you last night I knew you had stolen that line, of course unconsciously.

3pp., 12mo. Gilt-edged bifolium. Fair, on aged paper, with the reverse of the second leaf backed with part of the leaf on which the letter was previously laid down.

The seven signatures are each cut from a letter. They are mounted in two columns on a page of grey paper, roughly 22.5 x 27.5 cm, removed from an autograph album. In fair condition, on lightly-aged paper with occasional light spotting. At the head of the page is the word 'Horseman', with each individuals occupation in the same hand on the mount beneath his autograph. One (2.5 x 11 cm): '<...> delivery? | Yrs truly | Roderic Owen' ['Gentleman rider']. Two (5.5 x 11.5 cm): '<...> Yrs truly | Sam Darling' ['trainer']. Three (3.5 x 12 cm): '<...> Yours very sincerely | C. Morton' ['Trainer'].

On piece of paper roughly one inch by three and a half inches wide. Good, with glue staining to reverse. Reads 'Yours sincerely | Rod. I. Murchison | P.S. | <...>. On reverse (which is docketed in pencil) 'I <...> | that when Lord Palmeston died he had in his <...> 80 applications <...>'.
